I’m not impressed! Whatever happened to that time honoured tradition of milling about the rink bugging people to find out rumours about how the club may or may not be being organised? What will we do with our time if we don’t need to find out when we’re playing and what the schedule for the season is? How come we have to know in [b:jkwrk1fw]advance[/b:jkwrk1fw] when we will be playing? What happened to the well established approach of organising everything the week before an event is held and then wanking on about how players never turn up? Jeeze, next thing you guys will be emailing us to let us know when practices are on, or even more shockingly, letting us known when they’re cancelled and [b:jkwrk1fw]why[/b:jkwrk1fw] they were cancelled!

In all seriousness though, big thumbs up to the powers that be at the DIHA … oh, I can even name them all now as opposed to having to give a rough estimate based on people who I have seen floating around committee meetings.

I’ve been bitching about the DIHA as long as I can remember. I never had the motivation to really do much about it beyond setup the DIHA website, run the occasional DIHL event etc. Taking on the entire DIHA committee was simply too much work and it needed people with specific skills to do many of the tasks. This is incredibly satisfying seeing the whole (totally screwed) system get biffed out and replaced by what looks like a well oiled hockey organising machine.

I’m sure we’ll still find things to whine about, but they’ll be minor issues in comparison to what I used to politely describe as a “shit-can of mess”.

    Thank you DIHA board <img decoding=” title=”Cheesy” />

    Thanks Ryan,

It’s been a major job, and we’re taking some things on faith. Some of the things that are in the book, we currently don’t have full commitments from people that they’ll be organised. All the ice has been booked, but I can’t take responsibility for the rink cancelling our bookings.

There will be some errors in the book (I already found two after sending it to the printers, they’ve been fixed in the version on the web site), and inevitably some things will change during the year, and it will date, but we’re moving forward.

If anyone has suggestions or corrections for the booklet, email them to me and I’ll update the 2011 version as I receive stuff.

As a note, we’re still looking for people to do a bunch of jobs, mostly around SNC. We don’t have a manager for the SNC practice on Thursday nights – just someone to make sure that all the people that turn up for it play, it could be one of the SNC players. Also a person to organise an SNC team to play in the club night games on Saturday night (could be the same or different person). And if anyone is keen, someone to see if there is interest within the club to have a travelling SNC team (which we need to tell SIHL by mid-March). It’s a case of someone needing to step up to make sure that these opportunities happen for everyone else.

Yeah, I figured there’d be some volunteer shortages for all that stuff, but at least it’s clear what the plan is at this stage. It made it very difficult trying to organise anything in the past since there was no way to know what would or wouldn’t be likely to happen in the coming months/year.
