This Video was made by the guy planning on broadcasting NZIHL this season. Any thoughts on the video.
I thought the Zamboni and the getting changed as the song warmed up was cool, it would have been sweet if they slotted in Hellyers stick cam footage, sped up as it leaves dressing room, right when the song amps up.
I guess nature of not much footage, but there were too many guys falling down, (as opposed to being actually hit) and not enough goals, hits or saves.
I think it was pretty sweet video in all, given lack of source material.
7/10 from me.June 21, 2010 at 11:49 pm #15805Azzy77ModeratorActually, might have been nicer, to end video with Zamboni……
June 21, 2010 at 11:55 pm #15806ActiveMemberWhat target audience is it promoting to and through what medium? It seems too long to me
June 22, 2010 at 12:08 am #15807KyleMemberI suspect it’s slapshot productions showing the nzihf and nzihl what they can produce as a sample. Looked pretty professionally shot and edited.
I’ve watched it very closely and you can see my lining partner a couple of times, but not me at all. What the hell?
June 22, 2010 at 12:08 am #15808imported_RyanMemberI saw Ric Parry had posted something about this on FaceBook so I assumed it was just something he knocked together in his spare time. I didn’t realise it was professionally produced.
It’s better than channel 9’s attempts though.
June 29, 2010 at 5:59 am #15809SlapshotProdsMemberHi everyone,
I was down in the South Island to shoot some players and shot some game footage seeing as I was there.
We cut this promo together with the additional vision just as something little to show potential sponsors. It turned out alright, so we’re going to provide it to Sky TV to use as a Sky Sports Extra.
We cannot mix vision and formats for broadcast, so using the stickcam vision, even though it is awesome, would never be an option.
We are open to any ideas anyone may have, but please keep budget in mind and know that handycams are not an option. For those who know about TV tech specs, we have to shoot all our vision in raw 10bit 1080 HD, 25fps with 4:2:2 colour.

[/quote:nb1x749h]I agree. Quality looked good but content needs a bigger library to choose from. Guys falling really doesn’t need to be there. Can’t see that aspect promoting the sport. Compared to what we normally see on youtube, it definately a step in the right direction.
June 29, 2010 at 7:13 am #15811SlapshotProdsMemberI’m glad people like it. The whole clip is cut quite fast to match the high action of ice hockey. Most of those falls were caused by tripping or prior impact which simply didn’t fit in once the impact with the ice was cut to the music.
You’re quite right that we’ll be able to make better promos with more vision.
June 29, 2010 at 12:10 pm #15812Azzy77ModeratorWelcome to forum..
When I said use stick cam footage I kind of knew you could use that footage…but it would be pretty easily to simulate with better camera. Especially just part leaving changing room, if its attached securely to stick, you wouldn’t be in danger of breaking camera.
Is there any more filming being currently done with good cameras so new promos with more goals, hits and saves can be made?
We have a whole bunch of game tapes for the team, but I don’t imagine they are of the quality you require….June 29, 2010 at 4:00 pm #15813imported_RyanMember"Azzy77":30tqpfr0 wrote:Especially just part leaving changing room, if its attached securely to stick, you wouldn’t be in danger of breaking camera.[/quote:30tqpfr0]You wouldn’t need to attach it to the stick to show someone running out of the changing room. You could just run out of the changing room holding the camera at head height.
June 30, 2010 at 12:06 am #15814KyleMemberI’d put the camera on the ice showing their legs and sticks as they stepped onto the ice. That’s a transition moment from the changing room to the game.
With the backup goalie holding the door for them.
June 30, 2010 at 12:56 am #15815vpatrolMemberno respect for the back up!
June 30, 2010 at 1:33 am #15816KyleMemberHa. Actually I meant is as something that is a little unique in ice hockey. Most sports carry multiple subs, ice hockey only really has one, everyone else is likely to get icetime.
The role of the backup goaltender is a very interesting one. The often greet all the players as they go onto the ice – high fives, touching gloves etc. They help coach/run the bench. I remember a certain Stampede backup staying out on the Dunedin ice while the zamboni came on in an early NZIHL season to be last skater on the ice.
Just a wee bit of a tribute to the backup rather than no respect.
June 30, 2010 at 1:55 am #15817vpatrolMembermost under-rated player on the ice!
June 30, 2010 at 2:23 am #15818Azzy77ModeratorDamn skippy….I am still waiting for ODT to do profile on the backup goalie.
The most interesting position in sport, you have to go into every game knowing you probably won’t play, but you possibly might…
You have to be as focussed as the rest of the team, so you don’t distract them during the game, despite the fact sometimes the guy running the penalty box feeds you waffles….
You have to be able to switch on at drop of a hat, and generally when you get thrown in things are going badly for the team. So you are not going to get soft introduction to the game.
Make a promo up the Backup!!
