[i:4l5p7rnz]GM Misconduct penalty (20+5) means not only the player out for the current game but also for the next game[/i:4l5p7rnz]

any thoughts on these rules being put into place? I know it would stop a bit of confusion but what are your thoughts?

I’ve seen some pretty chippy play this year.  Most penalties were well deserved in my mind.

I don’t know if Auto-suspension is the way to go.
I think if a player is facing some game bans, he should be entitled to defend himself, or at least offer his side of story…

The Disciplinary procedure needs to be cemented?
What is the current procedure? I am sure Plod will be able to tell us..

As stated above, if you are assessed a 5+GM for any offence, you are out for the remainder of that game and you are now automatically suspended for the following game.

Defending yourself was never a defence!! All the players who have traded punches have generally been assessed the same penalties.

The ref has a number of options available (starting with minors, minors + misconduct, major AND GM or Match penalty) and I suspect that if they (refs) applied the rule the way the book is written there would have been almost as many Match Penalties called as the current number GMs. Refer to IIHF Rule 528.

Currently, what is sent to the Disc Hearing are only Match Penalties or a Game Misconduct which carries an automatic suspension, and off the top of my head, I can’t think of too many.

The current NZIHL Rules/Regs covering what requires a Disc Hearing are not well written and I would expect that there will some lively debate over changing the wording soon. Since publishing the penalty stats and the game in Auckland last night has really bought this issue out into the open.

I meant defending yourself in terms of hearing….I realise that involvement in fisticuffs is enough to get penalty regardless of who started it…

If someone immediately turtles does that mean he is not penalized?

So this is from on top? Game Misconducts recieved from now, result in automatic suspension?
So previously this season this wasn’t the case, it has been reintroduced? Sorry I am a wee bit confused?

What happened in Auckland last night?

There were two Match penalties assessed during last nights game, there is not enough detail on the score sheet to see why the MPs were assessed.

I am sure the Auckland reporters will be able to give some more information on the above penalties.

Prior to the current edition of the NZIHL Rules/Regs, the only local automatic suspension was if you were given a 10 minute misconduct, in the last 10 of the third period, you got ride the bleachers the following game.

If you turtle, you clearly shouldn’t be playing this game! Man the f@#k up and at least try to defend your manhood. Probably going to get a penalty anyway! They clearly did something to get the response! Each situation on its merits! Don’t really want to see roughing calls given to someone, when they can hardly punch their way out of a paper bag with their limp wrist!

Haven’t seen any public releases from the League hierarchy yet but I would imagine that it is coming very soon.

Defending yourself at the Disc Hearing is set out in the NZIHL Rules/Regs.

I think an instigator wearing a cage should get another 2 mins

why is this? in most cases it is not there choice to be wearing a cage?

Because if you have a cage on you shouldn’t be churping unless you have the balls to take your helmet off if someone wants to fight you. To many people have big balls hidding behind a cage. I know a handful of people itching to see some players with thier cages off.

@Paul awesome comment about manning the F*** up…I almost fell off my chair…But good point. I always take issue with both get equal punishment, because it leaves the option there for a team to send out 4th liner to take on opposition top player to remove both from the game…but I guess thats just the way it is…

Thundersbiggestfan its been a while, I was starting to miss the debates and insults you bring to the forum…While you are correct is saying that most cage wearers have to under the rules. Far too many cage wearers start crap in this league because they know when it comes down to a fight there is not a lot someone without a cage can do….

    #15945

yeah its good to be back but sorry to disapoint Im on your side with there are allot of shit stirrers in this league i know that is soon as i get my cage of the target is gonna be bigger than ever.
