just to let you know prems got off to a good start for the season
beating queenstown 7-3
and gore 8-1April 14, 2007 at 11:23 am #3024KyleMemberbeating queenstown 7-3? That’s a very good start. Both teams full strength? Stampede players and whatnot?
April 14, 2007 at 11:39 am #3025Azzy77ModeratorUm a lot of stampede players were away due to ice black commitments, there were still a few among their ranks I believe some one will have to confirm that.
We were missing James, Darcy, and a few others, best turn out for a prem team in a while, and think first time beaten qtown in a few years but again someone needs to confirm that
April 14, 2007 at 12:29 pm #3026imported_RyanMemberFrom what I heard the Rangers were only missing the Ice Blacks. James injured himself the other day.
That’s a hell of a good job!
Ryan,
April 14, 2007 at 7:49 pm #3027KyleMemberYeah, I remembered last night that the ice blacks are probably somewhere between italy and ireland.
Still 8-3, that’s really good. Nice job penguins.
April 15, 2007 at 3:25 am #3028imported_RyanMember"Kyle":mnk3kdwz wrote:Nice job penguins.[/quote:mnk3kdwz]Is that their current team name? There seemed to be some debate the last I heard.
Off-topic: the marketing/branding sub-committee are meeting this week to hammer out some sort of plan for naming, colour schemes etc. for the DIHA for the future. If you have any suggestions please email them to either myself or Steve Jackson for consideration.

I personally like “The Rapists”

Um, how bout no!
I actually like the “Phantoms”, but I’m not sure how the current team would feel about giving up their name for the club. I also think their (supposedly) orange colour scheme could be a possibility.
I also like the idea of sticking to the current “Penguins” name as it does signify something to do with Dunedin and is kinda ice related. A new colour scheme is definitely in order though, red and black is a little too Canterbury’ish for my liking.
Ryan,
April 16, 2007 at 7:10 am #3031imported_RyanMemberThis is slightly out of topic, but …
That SNC team which played yesterday looked to be very strong. Mike Sam, Steve Jackson and Larry Wheeler were all there (not sure about Mike actually, but I think I saw him). Will they be playing all season? Is there a team roster for this squad available to see? It looks like an interesting team, lots of quality players and no real weak points. Could be tough to beat in the SIHL SNC grade this season. The team last season looked quite messy, inconsistent players (ie: different ones each time) and a bit of a hotch potch of abilities and attitudes. It would be great to see a solid team come out of Dunedin, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to clean up in this grade a piece of cake as the level really isn’t that high.
Ryan,
PS: The Beasts are of course infinitely superior to all other teams.
April 16, 2007 at 12:46 pm #3032KyleMemberUmm, not sure what’s happening with the roster, but people who played on Sunday:
No goalie for the team, Graham Phipps-Black covered for us.
Steve Jackson
Larry Wheeler
Rane Phipps-Black
Richard Parr
Kyle Matthews
Larry Can’trememberhowtospellhissurname
Mike Sam
Joe Sale
Pete SanfordI think Graham, Phil Pielak-Jones are also lined up for the team when they’re over injuries. Possibly also David Bulling, Zanzee?
I’m the weak point in the team. Gave the puck straight back to the other team twice on Sunday, once when a Gore player called for it ” title=”Tongue” /> I covered with a couple of late goals though, so I’m hoping to make the cut ” title=”Smiley” /> Actually, not having a goalie and roping Graham into standing between the pipes is probably the major weak point at present.
April 17, 2007 at 12:02 am #3033imported_RyanMemberPhil and Zanzee were intending to play in ALL of the games this season. However there was a screwup somewhere along the line and someone thought that Dg was the Ducks, whereas they were Db which everyone thought was the Beasts. So the Beasts were sposed to be playing last time and the Ducks next time. Phil was rather confused when we picked him up from the airport on Sunday morning and asked if he was intending to play that day.
Ryan,
April 17, 2007 at 1:09 am #3034KyleMemberYes. I guess it doesn’t matter which way around it goes. Almost everyone on the Beasts seems to have assumed they are Dunedin Blue, and everyone on the Ducks assumed they were Green (or purple as it turns out), including Graham and Steve who were organising things.
Obviously we don’t mind winning games for you guys. You’ll just have to return the favour when you play for us! And don’t break the coach this time! Bad Beasties.
April 20, 2007 at 2:30 am #3035battered_and_bruisedMemberWell I don’t think the prems team is called the Penguins. We were using the white SK8 uniforms for now so I think there is going to be a name change soon. Speaking of which, I’ve got about 6 or 7 concepts that will be shown at that marketing/branding group meeting, whenever that will happen.
