As for everyone else, Need some feedback on the in game music, goal horns and announcing. I got a few complaints that it was too loud for the fans by the warm room, but then it was too quiet and people couldn’t hear the music behind. It was hard to get the volume right from where I was sitting because I also wanted to hear it. What about announcing? I was told I needed to slow down after the first game and I did try, and overall I was told it was a lot better the second game.
And finally, does anyone want to do the announcing and music for the Cadbury Cup? I am desperate because I will be playing. The music is all set and the goal horns are set, just need to be exciting for the announcing. Please let me know cause then I weill have to train them.

The sound system in there is pretty shit so you’re never going to get it perfect. The use of music, horns etc. was spot on. I tried doing that job for the Cadbury cup (or Easton Cup? I can’t remember) and I kept mucking it up, it’s harder than it looks. Timing is crucial which you did a good job on.
I did have trouble hearing you speaking a lot of the time, not because of the volume, that was about right, but the sound was too distorted. I’d recommend not doing the boxing style announcement of the players at the start of the game. Feels a little to American for my liking, although others may like it.
It’s definitely useful being able to hear what the penalties were for, who scored them etc. However it would be even better if there was less of a delay between the penalty, goal etc. and when you announce it – not your area obviously but something which be good if it could be speeded up. Is announcing things before they’re official an option? Ie: you make the call on who the goal was by and what the call was for (if you can see the refs hand gesture). Personally I couldn’t give a rats ass if it’s official or not, I just want to know roughly whats going on.

Yeah I’d like the delay to be a lot shorter to, but I’d also like it to be official. It did help with Aaron up there with me writing the stuff down and most of the time he had the calls before we got the official word. In saying that though, I think it’s better to have it right the first time then to keep having to come back on and correct myself. We did try and get quicker response though from the time keepers, but they had their things to do first.
Yeah good on you Ryan for offering to do a tricky job. I don’t think it’s something that people are used to having here.
First game I was goal judging at the other end and you came across reasonably clearly. Second game I was up in the stand behind you and a fair way to your right and it wasn’t so clear. There’s maybe a need for more speakers at that end of the rink pointing to the grandstand?
I had trouble understanding you most when you were talking over music. The second game because the sound wasn’t so good, I interpreted the referee calls for people around me because it was just difficult to hear you properly.
I’d agree with Ryan Hellyer about not using the extended names to make it more exciting. It didn’t help with the understanding.
I would increase your volume a fair bit. I never found you too loud, and given that it was quieter in some parts of the rink making it a little loud for some people would be OK if it helped other people hear.
Great job Ryan!!! Many people have commented saying you did an awesome job. On the ice we couldnt hear much, but it really pumped up the warm up. Great choice of music too, was great to warm up to zombie nation, really gets u excited!! And lets be honest the warm up is the 4th lines time to shine haha!
Only thing i could comment on that i heard was in the first game when u announced some stuff, it sounded like u were holding back a bit. I know it must have been pretty nerve-rackin, but if you do it again, go for it and add as much emotion as you can to the announcing! Awesome tho man.

STIFFYeah first game was just workin out the kinks. You guys on the ice weren’t really meant to hear the announcing cause, well, you guys know who set up who and who was a naughty boy and went to the box. Yeah Good Old Don never lets you down withy his music lol. Twas fun though…You like the goal horn???? lol guess which team? lol
Hey, I interviewed Ricky the Announcer during the third period break using my iPod. I’ll need to edit it a bit but if you (Ryan) want we could post it up as a pod-cast. I haven’t listened to it yet, there is the distinct possibility that it is incredibly lame but it might be fun.
Having being part of the design team I can tell you that the sound systems are pretty good quality. The problem is the accoustics of the building are abysmal but was something we were prepared to compromise on given we were not paying for the re-cladding of an energy efficient, accoustic un-friendly ice rink. There are things we can do later to improve accoustics.
Having said that I thought your voice came through clearly.I spent most of my time on the other side of the rink away from the spectators so my impression of the sound quality is probably fairly warped since I was one of the few standing over there.

How bout a special round of applause for ryans beautiful assistant, who looked rather dashing with a earpiece walkie talkie.
And had to do his best to get Ryan to call Braden, BrAden and not Brendon
and Ivar, IvaR not Ivan.It was a tough job but someone had to do it.
