I’m pretty eager to tighten my skates, but I lack the necessary tool to do so.  I need a set of pliers with a long, very thin nose in order to fit through the small access hole in the heel.  I suspect that there is a custom tool for this.  Anyone able to lend me such a device?

I’d also like to examine the possibility of purchasing a new pair of skates online.  Anyone know of any good sites?  I’m not looking to break the bank, so thrift is a huge bonus!  I checked out Sk8.co.nz, and they had some nice, cheap skates available (~$149) but unfortunately their stock was limited and they had none in my size (9EE or 9.5).

    Thanks for any help!

The stock in the SK8 warehouse often doesn’t match what they have on their site, so don’t assume they don’t have your size just coz it’s not on their site. You could try phoning or emailing them to confirm perhaps.

I dont know what they have but here are 2 other New Zealand based sites you may be able to get something from.

Dont even bother buying through an NZ shop.

I buy all my equiptment through hockeymonkey.com and they are a really reliable source.

Yeah that locker website is not great. Just looked and they are pretty low on gear. Everything they have sk8 has, but yes I agree with Regan. Go overseas. They are a lot better informed about gear and have better selection. If you also go over seas, I recommend teaming up with someone else to share the shipping costs.

    That’s another good site.
