There’s a summer league coming up real soon. An email will be coming out to players in the next day or so with details, it’ll be starting in… 10 days?
November 12, 2006 at 1:10 am #1688imported_RyanMemberShort notice! Good new though. Are you helping with this at all Kyle?
Phil Pielak-Jones phoned me the other day about it but I didn’t realise he was planning on it coming together so quickly. Sounds good though, hopefully they’ll get plenty of players. Bummer I can’t play ” title=”Sad” />
Ryan,
November 12, 2006 at 1:42 am #1689KyleMemberNo, not planning to help run it. I’ll talk to Phil about it tonight and provide him with some tips, and maybe I’ll manage a team, but I’ll quite happily skip running this one.
He’s running it in two parts – before Xmas, and after Xmas, so you might be able to join up at half time.
It’s also not going to be 5 on 5. Either 4 on 4, or 3 on 3, which will be hell tiring!
November 12, 2006 at 2:54 am #1690imported_RyanMemberI got an email from him before and will be sending an email out to all the players about it shortly. Looks like 3 on 3 is the way it’s going. 4 on 4 I actually find easier than 5 on 5, particularly as he’s not bothering with icing either so you can get away with cherry picking more, so less skating to do. 3 on 3 could be quite hard though.
I’ll phone him shortly about it, in particular I’d like to suggest naming it the DIHL Summer league, to tie the title in more to the current DIHL format. I’ll also be preparing an Event Notice as required under the new DIHA rules ” title=”Smiley” />
Ryan,
PS: I’m not sure if there’s age limit or not. I’m assuming 4 year olds can’t play but he hasn’t said otherwise, also don’t know if slapshots etc. are allowed or not.

Or call Phil on 4550952November 12, 2006 at 9:40 am #1691imported_RyanMemberHi,
Registration form for the Dunedin Ice Hockey League Summer 2006/2007 is now available for download:

Ryan,
November 12, 2006 at 11:12 am #1692ChrisMemberJust to confirm, this will be for players of all abilities, correct?
November 12, 2006 at 11:20 am #1693imported_RyanMemberYep, anyone 16 years or older can play. The more the merrier ” title=”Smiley” />
This will be a good chance for you to play at a higher level. Playing against better players is a great way to improve your own game. The level will be quite a lot lower than the recent DIHL A-grade but probably a lot higher than that of the B-grade. This will likely be very much a social event, so no one will mind if some players are at a lot lower level than themselves.
Hopefully plenty of people sign up. They’ve left this quite late to organise and I think that will affect the number of people signing up. It’s nice to see it happening though. It’s a good demonstration of the health of the sport if the league can operate all year round.
Ryan,
November 13, 2006 at 3:14 am #1694KyleMemberI would presume that Phil isn’t going to be too hard on that age rule either. There’s a bunch of 15 year olds who played in the DIHL, and if they’re a reasonable player then they should see about registering as well.
Going to have to see if I can rearrange my week so that I’m free on Wednesdays.
November 13, 2006 at 3:42 am #1695imported_RyanMemberYeah, I put a comment somewhere in the rego form (I think) saying that players could apply for dispensation to play even if they’re under 16. I’m sure Phil will be fairly flexible on that, particularly since a lot of them are quite good and bigger than some of the adults.
Ryan,
November 13, 2006 at 5:31 am #1696ChrisMemberHow about charging $95 for ten games if people pre-pay the full amount, as an incentive to sign up for the full season? With small teams, giving everyone an incentive to show up every week could prove valuable.
Just a thought.
November 13, 2006 at 5:41 am #1697imported_RyanMemberYeah, I would’ve done it that way too. Incentives are always a good idea IMO.
Ryan,
November 15, 2006 at 1:11 am #1698ChrisMemberFor pre-registration, do we just send phil a “Damn sucka, I be down wit dat funky shizzle” email, or fill out that whole application thing and email it to him?
November 15, 2006 at 3:21 am #1699KyleMemberI would suggest fill in the form and send it to him, or at least send as much of the details as you can.
He’ll be trying to put together teams on Monday night, and the last thing you want is an email from someone you don’t know saying they want to play, and that’s it. He’ll be trying to make even teams, and he might need to phone people, etc.
November 15, 2006 at 5:00 am #1700imported_RyanMemberPhil wants the registration form on the first night you arrive. The pre-registration just requires an email.
In retrospect there wasn’t much point in me putting some of things on the registration form like ability, position etc. as he’ll be needing those beforehand anyway.
An online registration form would have been suitable, but I wasn’t that organised/skillful!
Ryan,
November 22, 2006 at 8:41 pm #1701KyleMemberAs expected, 3 on 3 is pretty tiring!
Good to have some more people come along – Phil’s got an interesting thing going here, but we really needed two or three more subs – I was pretty knackered after 3 periods of chasing Simon Christos around.
