Hi guys. Im moving over to Dunedin from Aust at the end of March and am keen to give hockey a go (neva played before, but played inline hockey and am pretty good iceskater). Anyways just wondering how i can get started? The beginner training sounds good, are they held throughout the season or how does that work? Any info would be sweet.
Oh yeah, im female so do we play with the males or how does that work too? Thanks!

Hi Wildcats18, welcome to the forum.

The beginners session is a great place to start, but if you’ve played inline you may not need a lot of what’s taught there.

Currently, casual games are being run on sunday evenings (I believe). These are pretty relaxed, and are organised week to week by Graham Phipps-Black (username “Active”). Not sure what time, sorry, but hopefully GPB will stop by this thread to let you know.

We also usually run a local league (the DIHL) but as of now no final plans have been made for the running of the competition this year. Hopefully by the time you get here that should be sorted out, so keep an eye on these forums.

And to answer your other question: Yes, you’ll be playing with guys :-). Don’t worry, most hockey here is non-checking.

    Cheers,
    Chris
