This site got hacked ” title=”Sad” /> Some prat weazeled their way in via the WordPress software which powers it. They’d inserted a bunch of spam links into the footer of the page. The reason this happened was probably because I hadn’t updated the software for a while. I’ll try to keep it more up to date to avoid this happening again.
As a quick fix to get rid of the spam code, I uploaded an entirely new theme for the site. I haven’t migrated it over to the forum yet.
I was intending to change the design soon anyway, so this is just an excuse to do it earlier. The new theme is about 10% complete, there is a LOT of work that needs to be done on it. I’ll be up quite late tonight trying to polish off various parts of it so that it is actually usable (the navigation is currently munted). But in the mean time the spam links are gone.
Lesson in life … keep your software updated or suffer the consequences!
February 5, 2009 at 3:07 pm #9768imported_RyanMemberThe site is slightly better shape now.
[b:gpqczng9]Stuff which I’m aware of which needs corrected:[/b:gpqczng9]
* The title “Dunedin Ice Hockey League” on the home page is incorrect. That section actually contains lots of other news, not just the DIHL news.
* Thumbnails on home page aren’t entirely suitable (I was in a hurry and they were the first vaguely suitable images I found)
* The right hand sidebar content isn’t particularly suitable – better content needed there.February 5, 2009 at 3:17 pm #9769thirteenMembergood work ryan, we all appreciate the work you do to keep this website going, im sure everyone will agree with me and say that your allowed to slip up. keep up the solid work
February 5, 2009 at 4:04 pm #9770imported_RyanMemberThanks Blake.
If this was ever going to happen then now is probably the best time. I’d already been discussing some pretty major upgrades recently anyway and this has just accelerated those a bit.
February 5, 2009 at 9:17 pm #9771ChrisMemberI recognise that design!!!! ” title=”Cheesy” />
February 5, 2009 at 11:29 pm #9772imported_RyanMemberYep, the design will be familiar to anyone has either used my business site or surfed the web looking for magazine style themes for WordPress.
I needed a demo for the ‘Revolution Generated’ theme which is available as one of the default templates as part of the template generator available on my site. So the existing theme pooping itself in such spectacular fashion has been a good chance to do just that, and hopefully improve the site a little in the process. Everyone keeps asking for MORE photos, MORE photos and in general a little more zing. I’ve also received requests for a dark design, although when we used to have a darker design I got requests for a lighter design, so hopefully this meets somewhere in the middle.
Here is information about the design and where it came from (I didn’t actually design it, I just recoded it):
https://geek.hellyer.kiwi/revolution-generated/And here is the template generator (still in development) in case any of you feel like fiddling with it – choose ‘Revolution Generated’ to change to the new DIHA site design:

February 6, 2009 at 11:00 am #9774ChrisMemberBTW, I like the design very much ” title=”Smiley” />
February 6, 2009 at 11:58 am #9775imported_RyanMemberYeah, it’s pretty slick eh.
The forum is kinda munted right now, but I’ll have that fixed up within the next 24 hours (probably less).
February 6, 2009 at 2:12 pm #9776imported_RyanMemberNew forum design is now up and running.
Post all bug reports here please and I’ll try to fix them as fast as possible. This is an off the shelf freebie forum theme and it took a solid hour of hacking to make it work with the new site design so I won’t be surprised if there are quite a few coding gremlins which show up.
if you report some looking odd, please let me know the browser you are viewing the site in as problems are often browser specific. I’ve only tested it in Google Chrome so far.
