id just like to start with wow what an amazing game on the week end dunedin going down 4-2 to queenstown following there previous win against them in the last tournie maybe this is a sign of what the thunder are gonna be like and especialy since the rangers were down there ice blacks?
April 20, 2009 at 5:11 am #10907Azzy77ModeratorNote Thunder was also down their ice blacks, plus a few other 1st and 2nd liners…..
Qtown had some ice blacks present…..
Should be good contest between the Thunder and Stampede in the NZIHL….
April 20, 2009 at 5:13 am #10908imported_RyanMemberWere the Rangers missing their Ice Blacks in the first tournament?
And is there likely to be much difference between the rosters of the Thunder and Penguins teams?
April 20, 2009 at 5:16 am #10909Azzy77ModeratorWell seeing as the Thunder has a squad of about 24 and the penguins had about 10 players, with some SNC guys filling in, meaning there were probably 7 thunder players, I would imagine that the Thunder and Penguin teams are quite different…..
In the first round Rangers had Wilson, Stacey Rout (one former, one current ice black)
I heard yesterday Rangers had Argyle and Speirs??/ Correct me if I am wrong….April 20, 2009 at 5:26 am #10910Rhys MMemberYeah, thea was some good plays from the queenstown team whoever, good plays coming from n gloag and c harriosn with awesome of the ice support from a brookes. all tho queenstown did have have juniors playing starting line with those “ice blacks”so shows the up and coming skill of the younger playersApril 20, 2009 at 5:45 am #10912Rhys MMember[/quote]
all tho queenstown did have have juniors playing starting line with those “ice blacks”so shows the up and coming skill of the younger playersHmmm only 4-2 against a team thats not an offical thunder team made up of random players who dont really practice together, if thats all that queenstown (stampede) can beat them by, then well maybe thats also a indication of what they’ll be like this season
April 20, 2009 at 5:49 am #10913imported_RyanMemberBTW, welcome to the forum Tom Wilson Lovers ” title=”Smiley” /> Who are you and why are you so obsessed with Tom?

can you justify that since the stampede aquad has yet to be named
April 20, 2009 at 5:52 am #10915Rhys MMemberwell how can you justify the thunder if the squad hasnt been named either?
April 20, 2009 at 5:57 am #10916tom wilson loversMemberfrom what regan and tom have been telling me it has and i have heard all about the training runs with telephone poles on the beach
April 20, 2009 at 5:58 am #10917Defense101MemberI was actually quite surprised with the games. The Rangers seemed to have brought quite a strong side and the Penguins had lots of Juniors and guys that have never played with the thunder before. The Rangers definitely brought a stronger side and played like they did but yet the score remained very close. I think goaltending played a huge part because the Rangers definitely had 20-30+ shots with 4 goals and the Penguins had about 5 shots with 2 goals. I think the upcoming season will definitely be an interesting one for sure.
April 20, 2009 at 5:59 am #10918Azzy77ModeratorI don’t care who justifies what, as long as they learn how to use quotes properly!!!
But fair call by both of you, when you combine your arguments, fundamentally we can’t judge either Thunder or Stampede on the performance of Penguins or Rangers respectively. However it is human nature to speculate….so go nuts based on your opinion of who will make each squad.
Only when Stampede and Thunder meet will we truly know what the teams relative strength against each other is. SIHL is not a good indicator, because
A/ The teams in SIHL are Dunedin, Queenstown and Gore/Alex based, whereas at least theoretically Thunder and Stampede takes a mixture of these players plus imports.
B/ Most weekends only 10 random people turn up for any of the teams, whereas the NZIHL squad consist of at least 22 guys who train together, severely altering the dynamic of the teamsApril 20, 2009 at 6:01 am #10919Defense101MemberVery very well put Azzy.
April 20, 2009 at 6:12 am #10920tom wilson loversMemberim glad some one can use a key board and that was well put and will not hold a grudge
