I didn’t mind going down at the faceoff, player/s took me out from behind. The other one was annoying, just skating back to the blue line and found myself on the ice. Go ten games without falling over and catch it in front of the crowd.

[/quote:25z7vf1i]Gives me the creeps when that stuff happens. Not sure if they’d had the door open or just hadn’t closed it properly. Rink is designed to keep people as safe as possible, but that design doesn’t work if they get put into an open door or something. Plenty of hard, sharp bits that don’t move for the player or someone in the bench to suffer some serious damage.
June 22, 2009 at 5:17 am #11773ActiveMemberThe door wasnt shut properly. Man you should have heard the langauge directed toward James after that hit but I did notice not many confronted him on the ice after that

But who saw james put the guy through the door! first or second shift! quality stuff! and thanks for being alert after the whistle kyle, good man, reffing was flawless yesterday
[/quote:unsh8ixd]He was hurt pretty bad on that play Blake. His face was first to hit the boards. So if you enjoy the types of hits that really threaten the health of a player (clean or otherwise) then you will understand why you were dropped after gloating following that hit. Nobody should gloat when a player gets hurt like that. That was a poor show on your part.
June 22, 2009 at 10:54 pm #11775Defense101MemberI think the sportsmenship of your team during the game was fairly poor Vince so I wouldn’t talk to Blakie about that. I think James had quite a few great hits this weekend and the original contact of the hit was clean the door just happened to not be opened and the player twisted around and went face first. It happens and the ref watched it and said it was clean. There were a few times players were hit from the shoulders and went face first not the attackers fault it was the person receiving the hit probably trying to get a call and for your player it just didn’t turn out as he was expecting. Anyways congrats on your win Vince your team played really well.
June 22, 2009 at 10:59 pm #11776thirteenMemberVince, if that hit was so bad as to permanently injure the guy, i probably wouldnt laugh, but any clean hit that messes someone up is pretty funny, we all enjoy the big hits on Don Cherrys highlights, i dont know any hockey player who doesnt, so whats the difference? a good hard clean hit is always exciting.
But it wasnt exactly like it hurt when i got dropped, it was a friendly tap to the back.
Still funny and even funnier what active says about no one going after james at all after that.June 22, 2009 at 11:08 pm #11777vpatrolMemberOur team doctor spent quite some time checking him out and monitoring him. Hits are fine but hurting people isn’t. From peewee to nhl, when a hurt player gets up, the opposing team slaps his stick on the ice because they don’t want to see injuries. They don’t laugh. The merits of the hit don’t matter. Laughing at a player who went head first into the boards and is clearly hurt is poor form in any league at any level.
June 22, 2009 at 11:14 pm #11778thirteenMemberif the same thing happened to james id laugh, if it happened to me id expect people to laugh. if its clean its funny, if its dirty its not. simple as that. the guy got up, good on him, if we had to have a stoppage of play i would have banged my stick for him when he got up and been happy that he got up, but it wouldnt have changed the fact that it was funny that he got munched.

[/quote:1y6vvpce]I don’t think James is a dirty player and I’ll defend him on that but his hits can be borderline and I even told him I thought that one was (calmly after the game). Of course a team will be angry when a player gets hurt badly on a questionable call. Not saying it was an intentional dirty hit but I don’t think it was clean either. I’ve seen hits like that seriously injure a players head, neck and back. Never was it laughable!
Revenge on James is not our style especially with a scoreline like we had. If it ever came to it, there are a few guys on the team who would step up. Fear wasn’t what held them back.
June 23, 2009 at 12:39 am #11780thirteenMemberjames hits are very rarely borderline, they only look dangerous because of the general outcome of the hit, he is one solid bugger. another good comparison is hayden argyle, his hits appear to be borderline because of the general outcome but i dont think i have ever seen him throw a dirty hit. ridiculously hard hits yes, dirty hits no.
was it funny last year when the kid idoine broke his cheek on russos shoulder? yes it was. its human nature to laugh when people get hurt because they wouldnt want the same to happen to them so its often a nervous kind of laugh, but its still funny. your team no doubt laughed when i got cross checked in the back, granted, and thats fineJune 23, 2009 at 12:51 am #11781Azzy77ModeratorI think what Blake is talking about, keeps Americas funniest home videos in Business……imagine if they had a followup show then it wouldn’t be quite so funny…
June 23, 2009 at 3:50 am #11782ActiveMemberActually one of the funniest “hurtfull” moments ive seen in ice hockey is at the Erewhon Cup in Alex when Blake after giving the Queenstown players heaps on this very forum went hurtling into a check on one of the said Queenstown players only to miss, hitting the boards and breaking his arm. Some might have seen the irony in it but not me of course . I can safely rip off Blake cause I know he would laugh as stated earlier
