[size=1:2a6neibf][b:2a6neibf]Edit by Ryan:[/b:2a6neibf] Sorry, but this topic has been clipped in half. Part of the deal in me taking over the DIHA forum and moving it here to SlapShot.net.nz is that I had to remove a bunch of topics that the DIHA wanted removed. This was one of them, but I actually forgot to remove it and then it was replied to here by ChinStrap after the changeover, so I’ve removed the pre-changeover posts and the later posts you can see below.[/size:2a6neibf]

I am very disapointed in Dnedin not coming to Gore as the Erewhon Cup is the Erewhon you are playing for the cup not gore, it takes nothing away from what it means to win.

I think part of the problem comes down to a lack of anyone willing to organise a team. There is no SIHL SNC team this year because of that. It’s not just a dislike of the way it is run, there’s a general problem in finding players and organisers for travelling senior teams.

Sometimes winning isn’t the point.  Just like the outdoor classic in the nhl being moved indoors would be silly now wouldn’t it?

God that was well done.. do you get it? Hairy-One (because it sounds like “Erewhon”, but then its dedicated to Blake who is hairy, so he is the hairy-one). Hope everyone got that well thought out joke.

I think I see what you did there, but could you explain it for us again. Not cause i didn’t get it, just cause I like the sound of your voice, stefan. except it’s not really your voice. It’s more like your binary code. So really, I like your binary code. Sounds a bit dirty doesn’t it?

I don’t see how Gore can make a call to host the Cup indoors when there are 3 outdoor rinks who have ice that can be played on at present.

Holy crap this Cup has one of the longest histories in New Zealand sport!
    (1937 for those that care)

God Damn how would the NZRFU feel if the holders of the Ranfurly Sheild decided to be play all the games indoors this year?

It is just not right – and needs to be sorted out!

Vpatrol – said it right, its not about the winning its about playing good fun Ice Hockey OUTSIDE, I think Wyndham Barker would be rolling over in his grave!

yea our reason for not attending erewhon is summed up in what vpatrol said. we apologise if it seems like we are being rude but we are just making a stand for what we believe in. where would America be if that black lady gave up her seat on the bus?

rosa parks was her name, she took a stand and so shall we

Well she didn’t stand and thats what started the fun!

Why don’t we just organise a trip to Tekapo and hold it there.
If we can book the Ice, away we go.

I pretty sure the cup is in Queenstown somewhere – its been here so long
could be hard to find it. <img decoding=” title=”Grin” />

oh oh man what a call! that hurts, but what a call! good idea, we had thought about resurecting the Ancient Britton Cup and playing in Naesby, its a bit too late in the year to be organising a tournament. if we wernt lazy buggers we would have done it by now and hosted it on the same weekend as the erewhon. we would have seen if people wanted to play their fun alcohol fuelled tournaments inside in gore or outside in naesby.

Don’t think people from Gore really can if they drink inside the car or outside the car!
    As long as there is a car involved! <img decoding=” title=”Cheesy” />

Think we will have to make a banner and protest outside, and keep the cup in Queenstown,
if it’s not being done right then it’s not being done at all!!!!

If you dont remember 13 Dunedin was the club only 5 years ago to led the charge on changing the the rule from outdoors to indoors. Winning it is not at the top of the list, very close second after playing in it.

bring back the days when it was open to all South Island teams/clubs!! Would get more interest, there is nothing more frustrating than playing in it and not being allowed to win it!!

5 years ago was before i was old enough to drink, and before i had ever attended erewhon. Had i been a regular attendee of the tournament i would have no doubtedly taken the same stance as i am now. I have been a member of the gore club most of my hockey life and this is not a dig at them, i just feel they have made a bad decision.

Perhaps 5 years ago Dunedin was leading the charge to host erewhon indoors I don’t remember. Although as I recall Dunedin didn’t have a rink 5 years ago, so this seems like a silly call for them to make.

I also recall 4 (???) years ago Dunedin hosted the Erewhon cup in Naseby. So maybe we grew up and realised tradition is more important than our own needs.

Valid Queenstown has held the cup for many years now, but I remember there was a period of time Dunedin were perennial holders, so yes Chinstrap winning hasn’t been a high priority lately.

But the point is playing Erewhon in the small towns with outdoor rinks is the way it should be, so that we can take over the town and drink and socialise with our hockey brothers and sisters and be the majority.
In saying that Queenstown was missing last year during the social events of erewhon cup, which I must say I was disappointed with, made feel not as complete as my other two erewhon cups in Naseby and Tekapo, with the Lee, Rout, Argyle et al missing from the bar

This is my 15th year playing in it, im not going to lie hear im not over the moon going to Gore or Alex when when you have such memories as the SIHL womans team running down the main street of Nasby in the nick or riding the bull in Tekapo.

It was decided by all in the SIHL and I know they talked to Ben who’s farm it was first played on for his decsion and now well its such as life, it sounds as it would be wise to submit a remit to the SIHL to change the ruling, back to the original outdoor ruling  Queenstown will be behind you on that.

I think that Dunedin is missing out not coming as we still get to play what we love, we get to be part of something greater than ourselves and where all players wether its your first year or your 15th get enjoy the only envroment left were rivalrys and disputes are set aside for the game to be played for the spirit of it

oh and just for your info Dunedin and Queenstown are tied for the most winning team in Erewhon Cup history
