August 17, 2009 at 3:41 am #13939vpatrolMemberTough to say on this one because I haven’t seen the IB’s recently (no one has in months). No idea on who is going to get minutes. Some aren’t in the form they would like to be however big games can bring big performances. Haven’t seen the North Stars play in quite some time either. They aren’t bringing a big squad but its quality. Ezzy in net is a tough beat. The french canadian import has 4 years ncaa experience. Guys like Vlad Rubes are still dangerous even as he gets older. They will be fit but if IB’s can keep it close towards the end of the game, I think IB’s can put more pressure on in the 3rd (assuming they roll lines). Pure conjecture though. I’m not the coach and not privy to either teams game plans or lines. I think it will be close but potentially explosive at times (scoring wise).
August 17, 2009 at 4:59 am #13940KyleMemberOk well its two games for starters.
I think one will be a tie, IBs will take the other one. This is largely the same IB team that came together well at the world champs, and they’re playing a couple of sydney teams mashed together. A full strength Aussie team would be different.
If the IBs are within a goal at the beginning of the third I think they’ll win the game, they always finished strong at world champs as their work in the first two periods paid back. Parry to get a start.
August 17, 2009 at 5:24 am #13941vpatrolMemberalthough I haven’t looked at the roster, I think its mainly Newcastle. A team that’s played 30 games together and will be in form. The Aus rep players will know eachother. I think Rubes is the only Sydney Bear without having a close look and some of those guys definately know him.
World Champs had a training camp. Thsi hasn’t. Not trying to be a wet blanket but there hasn’t been any prep for this so I would say Aus will have the team togetherness portion of the comp won.
August 17, 2009 at 6:05 am #13942imported_RyanMemberI’m on the fence by choosing “it will be real close”. I guess that’s the option you choose when you have no idea.

August 18, 2009 at 3:20 am #13947vpatrolMemberInteresting article. What criteria did they give you for the article? Curiosity more than anything.
August 18, 2009 at 3:31 am #13948KyleMemberUmm. “Promote this weekend to a general audience”. I took liberal license and talked it up a lot. It’s how I write.
August 18, 2009 at 3:32 am #13949KyleMemberIronically the invitation arose out of a comment I made on another forum about two Auckland high school rugby teams going at each other and the fans on the sideline having an all-in brawl.
Which is just a way of explaining that I can shoehorn just about anything into an opportunity to promote ice hockey.
August 18, 2009 at 3:40 am #13950vpatrolMemberIt might not have been the way I would have written it but its a more unique way of getting the info out there. Hopefully it gets some readership.
August 18, 2009 at 3:57 am #13951KyleMemberWell, I’m not an English Lit grad, so obviously I had to do the best I could with my limited abilities.
