Slow steps but looks positive.
September 1, 2009 at 9:57 am #14295vpatrolMemberNot holding my breath but it would be awesome when they finally get it. A 6 team league is a very good situation when they develop enough quality players. Having a semi-final would be fantastic!
September 1, 2009 at 10:39 am #14296imported_RyanMemberThis doesn’t sound so great:
[quote:2wloer3j]She said the temporary rink could provide ice skating for four months each winter.[/quote:2wloer3j]
It would make travelling to the north island to play hockey a lot more fun though. There’s not much point in travelling to Auckland when you can get to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane for about the same price.
September 1, 2009 at 10:18 pm #14297ActiveMemberIm thinking it wont include boards like the last temporary rink which catered to casual skaters

[/quote:2xqh7u07]Why the agro towards Dunedin? They’ve never been thumped in the NZIHL so I don’t know what you are getting at.
The more teams/players the better IMO.
It would be a really fun road trip to travel up the island, stop off in ChCh for a few games, catch the ferry across, play a few games in Welly then stop in on Tekapo for a game or two on the way back.
September 3, 2009 at 10:21 pm #14300Azzy77ModeratorUm…ryan I was in the team.
We did get thumped a few times.
Thanks for the support thoughSeptember 3, 2009 at 10:36 pm #14301vpatrolMemberThat wasn’t the Thunder! That was some team in grey. Nobody knew who they were though because we couldn’t read the jerseys. The Thunder only played a couple games in Auckland I hear.
September 3, 2009 at 11:24 pm #14302imported_RyanMemberYou guys have a totally different concept of thumped than I do.
Maybe I’m just used to getting my ass whipped at hockey, but 10 – 0 is not a thumping in my book. Heck, I remember being on the Dunedin Aces and being stoked when we kept games below that sort of score line.
September 3, 2009 at 11:49 pm #14303KyleMemberWe were still getting thumped Ryan. In the NZIHL, I’d say anything over 6 goals difference is a thumping.

Ambitious.
November 4, 2009 at 10:54 pm #14305Azzy77ModeratorNew home to the Taupo Terrors?
November 4, 2009 at 11:37 pm #14306imported_RyanMemberSounds promising.
They’d probably have a good team as well since they have a solid base of inline hockey players who would hopefully make the switch to playing on ice.
January 13, 2010 at 6:12 am #14307keithMemberWellington has in built problems I have have two meetings with Kerry Penetgust s and right of renewaklhe was all for it.
There is a problem in Wellington as you can not get a long lease anywhere.
All the landowners seem to think the next year they will get some big paying government client so the best at three years is stupid for an ice skate rink as this needs a long term lease.
WELLINGTON is also short on space and the wharf area is another one of hot
topic I have met with several people who operate in that area.
That canoe guy Ferguson owns a roller blade thing on the water front he is dead against some one coming into his space. He is also a wanker to boot.
I have had talks with heeps of property developers in Wellington, even though I am a Dunedin person and have never lived in Wellington I was interested in seeing a rink up there as my daughter lives there.
So at the moment I am talking with ICE WORLD as they wish to establish a rink here, they are a Dutch company who have own rinks all over the world about 230 of them.
You may not know there is over 600 ice skating rinks in the USA alone this is official from ICE SKATE AMERICA as I have also been intouch with them to see if they will help.
Albertown as this rink cant attract enough customer I am closing it it will become a garden bar for the pub but still look like a skating rink dassher boards and all sorry, Wanaka people did not support it.
KeithJanuary 16, 2010 at 11:55 am #14308cantstopmeMemberi cant beleive nz ice hockey is as big as it is, and getting bigger! australian hockey isn’t as big (i live in brisbane) apart from that big complex they building in melbourne the rinks here are the poos.
