Actually I was assuming the rink would take ALL of the money apart from the teams costs. I think it would be too risky for them other wise … or too risky for whatever organisation did it since they’d need to cover both teams costs AND rink costs.

July 30, 2009 at 2:28 am #12792vpatrolMemberCIHA bankrolls any shortfalls we get so extras go to them which I think get bumped back to devils anyways. The actual rink is privately owned. They rent their services. Their services are roughly 300 per hour. Why should they profit from the game other than vending sales which they keep?
July 30, 2009 at 2:31 am #12793cowgirlMemberI agree, same deal in Queenstown. We pay the rink $350 per hour for the facilities but we run the event so we take any profit. With the NZIHL, $3700 has to go to the league per round and then we pay seating & advertising. Anything above that goes back to the club.

That’s how nzihl works. Why would it be different for IB’s vs Aus. Plus that game would be an awesome way to get kids caring about competing for an IB’s spot in the future. Can’t put a price on that.
[/quote:1j7qd6rc]Because (at least in the instance of the upcoming NZ/Aus tests), the rink is taking care of the marketing etc costs.
Unlike a team practice, the ice isn’t the only thing they’re providing.

[/quote:3n5vjf6p]One would assume nzihf would do the marketing and the rink only supplies however many people they think they need for vendor services. Still only one zamboni guy.
July 30, 2009 at 3:08 am #12796KyleMemberYes but there are costs to the venue of holding an event – staff, security, cleaning, consumables, damage. Eden Park doesn’t hire out the rugby field in the middle for a couple of hundred bucks and then the All Blacks pocket all of ticket sales. The venue gets a cut.
July 30, 2009 at 3:21 am #12797imported_RyanMemberI guess those rinks are treating the ice time as some sort of loss-leader. Every other sports stadium I’ve heard of charges a vastyl different fee to rent their facility for viewing by spectators than for private usage.
I recall being told a figure of $50,000 to rent the WestPac Stadium in Christchurch for a large spectator audience.
July 30, 2009 at 4:24 am #12798cowgirlMemberWell perhaps it’s different in Dunedin.
We provide our own security. We set everything up ourselves including the music/sound system. We clean up the rink before the games and after. We (QIHC) actually own the boards and all the netting so any damage is repaired at our own expense. They simply run the canteen and groom the ice.July 30, 2009 at 5:02 am #12799imported_RyanMember"cowgirl":1ieg1564 wrote:Well perhaps it’s different in Dunedin.[/quote:1ieg1564]It seems so.
I never knew the QIHC were so involved with the Stampede. I thought it was run as an entirely separate entity much like the Thunder is.
July 30, 2009 at 5:51 am #12800ActiveMemberDunedin Ice sports owns the rink and plant and runs its business interests. Dunedin Ice sports consists of the three ice clubs, curling, hockey and skating all who have equal representation on the board who governs the rink management. So in effect all ice sports members have ownership of the rink and contribute to the support of the Thunders financals (current losses) Any profit made goes back to the clubs in one form or another (ice time, changing rooms, seating, lighting equipment etc) and any losses have the opposite effect.
July 30, 2009 at 11:36 pm #12801Azzy77ModeratorThe problem in Dunedin is the people who would do all that security and/or music are in the team.
It would seem any other hockey player in Dunedin has no interest in helping. As the thunder have never been approached by volunteers. We are currently looking for some one to do music this weekend, let us know if you are interested.

[/quote:2381yn2r]That’s not true Aaron. Michael arranges volunteers for every Thunder game. The peewee manager rounds up people to help with pre-sold tickets and giveaways.
July 31, 2009 at 12:34 am #12803thirteenMemberyea mike does a good job orgainising officials and the kids are an awesome help but that still dooesnt leave us with anyone who wants to do the lights and music, security too.
July 31, 2009 at 12:54 am #12804KyleMemberNo one has ever asked the club to find someone to do music. I’ll see what I can do.

[/quote:stpu0slr]Well I guess it’s actually supposed to be the Southern League that organises and hosts the games for Stampede. I know that Thunder in different because they made that call to go out on their own when they started up. Like I’ve said previously, Stampede games are organised by the Queenstown Club and the Sopers from Gore.
