should be start a “suggestions to increase the number of volunteers our organization can get and why we might not get as many as we would like” thread and let the round 6 red devils/stampede thread fade into obscurity?

You keep saying “Nobody ever volunteers”.

    Tried asking?

In the three-ish years I’ve been hanging around Ice Hockey, nobody’s ever asked for my help with anything.

Maybe it’s just because I’m a reject loser who nobody wants to hang out with, but if you needed a doorman for thunder games, why didn’t you just ask?

Azzy…”Hey has anyone asked for some volunteers for our games”
Answer…. “Ahhh I thought someone else was going to do that and besides dont you have to talk to other people to do that “.

Hockey organisers rarely seem to bother asking for help. Admittedly it is rare that anyone offers anyway, but it would make a LOT of sense to ask anyway. You never know who will be reading and decide to offer their time since they’re being asked. It will likely take trolling through 10-20 volunteers before you find that is actually competent, but those competent volunteers do exist and out there waiting to be asked … except they rarely are asked to help, or asked in a generally vague manner.

Saying “we need help, please volunteer” is pretty useless IMO. You need to be explicit, ie: we need someone to do the following jobs a, b, c, d and e. Asking for help in general almost never works in my experience.

Exactly. For example, “we need help with the music”…. Well, Harry King is learning the art of being a club DJ. Has anyone asked him?

He might be busy, but I’ll bet he hasn’t been asked.
