interesting the fact tha the Stampede was before this wekend the least penilized team in the league by far way look at the round 5 stats going against the most penilized team hmm.

Vpatrol have a chat to Soffer, Loz, Oak, Harrap they will agree shots were taken by both teams smack talk was done by both team no one person stood out from each other on this front. They will also saypenilties were one sided but we will take it who wouldnt.

I know know for a fact that Stampede have worked on a different style of play which is why it wasnt as physical as playing the swarm both teams could agree on that.

The ref didnt see everything such is life that is hockey devils took advantge of that any good team would

NZblack ice – Saying the coach sent players out there to get edan,,,,,,, well dont think so buddy, they just had fresh legs. reading into that one a bit much, the only person that puts Edan on a pedistall like that is himself, no offence to Edan, good player he is but not enough to take away the objective of scoring

Guys, you all need to take your eye patches off and look closely at the score sheet, think that there was 5+Gm for excessive roughness at the end, therefore 2 players go to the box, plus one player was still serving the rest of his misconduct for check from behind, plus a couple of minors each way. There is about 40 min alone.

Point is until Southern provide any suitable referees to ref in the league you will have to get used to it. There has been the same argument for years. The last good ref down south was Finchy! Think he left about 8 years ago.

eye patch off, Sat night was fine not too many called but went both ways,

Sun night well, look players dont mind a bad game from the ref as it happens to all of us if your going to have an off night go both ways be aware of the surroundings in play and out of, more the out of.

We need to realise that two good teams, the games are going to be close, they are going to be physical, emotions are going to run high, those factors need to be considered for as factors when reffing, we could look clinical and say things are clear cut black and white, but they are not and everything is viewed differently, for instance

#10 tripped from behind on a breakaway

    call 1  no call
    call 2  penalty
    call 3 penalty shot
Stampede got call 2, devils wanted call 1 Stampede wanted call 3

Plod games thus far i have been impressed with the best year for refs yet allowing flow and calling evenly that one not the best yet and thats my veiw with with no eye patch

When are Canterbury going to get good refs?!

The Stampede don’t want a Southern ref they want a neutral ref! The Auckland teams want a Southern ref so they don’t have to put up with the same thing when they play Canty.

So, why was Haxel not reffing in Christchurch on the weekend? Wouldn’t it have made sense to send a Canty ref up there?

Also, whatever happened to Nancy? She was good!

Chin strap, you bring up a ‘good’ penalty for dicussion. It was a ‘good’ penalty to take when Crd were down a man on pk. I think that the only thing that prevented it being option 3 was the #10 managed to trip him from the side and not take him down from behind. He reached around.

Had he touched the puck you could also say/argue that there was no penalty as there was possession change!!

Cowgirl, who is to pay for ALL the extra travel? Nancy was only ever a liney and she is now overseas.

Haxell was doing games up north.

Both teams turned up to play on Sat and emotions ran high towards the end of that game. Devils had to really turn up and play on Sunday to even the series. The return leg will be interesting.

I struggle to believe that players and supporters from one team or the other don’t have an eye patch on. Everyone has a bias and sees the game a certain way. I’d take the claims a lot more seriously if they were made by a neutral person, with refereeing experience.

Southern teams can get Peter Haxell or another Auckland referee down here if they’re willing to pay for the extra costs (and he’s not already doing games). Thunder did this last year for its final two games against Red Devils. New Zealand is short of referees that can do this level of game, and I can’t imagine players accusing the referees of being biased helps keep those that are there, in the game.

Neutral referees will never happen however until there are sufficient referees at the right level in all three regions, and teams are willing to pay the additional expense.

Even the Aussie National League use home referees!!

For all the referee knockers out there, if you want to make a change to the current status quo, get out there and give it a go. You might find harder than you think! First, some of you would need to learn to skate.

And even then, when you know you can skate, you still fall over in front of a couple of hundred people when skating back to the blue line.

Kyle, you got high marks for artistic ability!!! Took a lot to get out there and jump several levels up the ladder from Dunedin hockey.

It’s not a matter of right. I’m sure the National League would use neutral referees if it could. It’s just not possible practically as only Auckland and Christchurch have national league referees. So only some games can be done neutrally at present. They’d have to bring referees in from Australia to cover the rest.

Which if teams wanted to pay for it might be possible, but it’d be something like $5 – 800 each weekend.

Christchurch carry a heavy load in terms of supporting national league games. They referee all the games in Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown.

That was a tough call.  I wouldn’t have been surprised if the call went either way.  It was a penalty though.  I had no doubt of that.  Relieved it wasn’t a penalty shot but again, wouldn’t have been surprised if it was.  Then again, I was watching the puck and not the d-man and what he was doing to Glassy so maybe Jerome saw something else.  He was pretty close.

Maybe I was reading into that a bit too much but you have to admit bringing age into a situation like that was completely irrelevant.

I threw the age because it made it sound worse  <img decoding=” title=”Grin” />
