Has anyone considered the possibility that the rink would not want to cancel all scheduled events for one day or more?  It’s a tough logistical task running the marathon events.  Getting the rink to staff the place overnight can be tough too.  I’m good for 8 hours of ice time though minimum

Welcome to the forum chchicechick <img decoding=” title=”Smiley” /> What team/league do you play for in Christchurch – am assuming you do.

Sounds like this is a really popular idea, volunteers to organise it? Ryan Wick? Shouldn’t actually take too much organising to get the game going. The bulk of the work would probably involved marketing and so forth. I think the club as a whole would probably launch into the concept pretty well though.

Oh yeah, and bags not wear a jersey which has been worn for 23 hours straight! Poo, icky!

If it was run in the summer then ice time should be obtainable.

I’m not sure how much time you’ve spent playing here in Dunedin, but the rink here operates quite differently to the one in Christchurch, they’re not as anal about having a whole fleet of staff on or anything. Plus there’s a few hockey players who would count as staff anyway and could groom etc. for us.

But yeah, that stuff could be a stumbling block.

This is Ryan Wick by the way, Stefi-pooh is logged on at work and I can’t be bothered logging out then logging in again.

Yeah that’s the time I was intending on doing, around the summer time…hopefully before people leave.

if he did, the only stipulation would be that we all have to grow chuck norris beards. Sorry Steffi-Pooh your out man…unless we draw on the facial hair lol. Me and Blake are already going pretty good with our beards.

Having beards would be fantastic. But would we have to dye them ginga like his too? But as im all for accepting people for who they are (I think diversity of beard colour is an important issue facing this dark world) maybe this should not be a requirement. Mind you if Chuck says we have to, who can argue with him?

Down here, the only thing that pays better than ice hockey in terms of bringing money into the rink, is social skating. But because we have two ice rinks, for special occasions they’ll put social skating on the curling rink and just re-spray it when it’s done. They could also move figure skaters onto there. They did that for friendship, they’ll do it again for nationals. If we booked ice for 24 hours, I bet they’d give us a really good price, because normally the hours 11pm to 6am aren’t used at all – that’s free additional income, the only cost of which is lighting and having a staff member there who can groom. There are a couple of ice hockey players who can do the grooming, so even if they give us a discount rate, it could all be profit for them.

I still think it should be done for a ‘good cause’ – either inside or outside the club. That way you can get sponsorship and look at most or all of the money that people pay in ice time being profit.

the current worlds longest game had the cause as pediatric cancer research.  That’s why they got so much sponsorship, donations etc.  If a charity is attached, it makes it so much more marketable as opposed to a club fundraiser.  Media coverage increases tenfold too

but then we wouldn’t make any money for the club. Or would we have a 50/50 weighting or somethign going on? I guess it depends on what the aim of the event is really.

Yes I will hurt you for that comment Stefi-Pooh. And as for funraisin for a charity, I’ve had more thought into it and if this were to go ahead, I would like to donate to the NZ Breast Cancer people because of what ny family has gone though with it. So yeah splitting the profits with the club and them would be a good idea. I don’t know what ratio would be good but any money raised is good money I guess.

If it’s for NZ breast cancer people, I’ll skate for the whole 24 hours, non-stop.

Toouche! I think thats actually quite a good cause… oh the media attention…. It will not only be fantastic for the sport and the club, also i’d imagine the rink will get a flood of new people wanting to come down and learn how to skate…. so they can participate in the next one!!

I say lets go for the record……
10 days that nothing, I have taken longer holidays than that….

But I am pretty sure Hans and Niel would be up for it if we got a worthy cause. As someone said we would bring it a truck load more money than social skaters…

Does anyone know the official rules, I mean could we even given social skaters a stick and a helmet for a shift to count as continuous game, or do we have to have fixed roster.

Only suggestion if we are playing 24 hours, don’t use Stampede line changes, otherwise we might kill some people.
(I was just making a joke if any stampede coaching staff out there reading this, I understand playing your best player….however in the first game if you down 7-1 you probably could have afforded to chuck on the other lines, I mean your first line probably isn’t going to well)
