The Aardwolves will be here on Monday the 24th July at 8.30pm
Kyle has suggested to Joyce that the new Phantoms team play against their A-team and I’ve suggested that I organise a team from the beginners session to play against their B-team.

They have a website at:

And there’s info. about the player coming here: (see the Southern Migration 2006 article)

Hey
Cool to see everythings rolling along swell and fine, Ryan just a thought about the photo gallery I like how its done and it looks really awesome and easy to flick through the photos but how come we no longer have a wee caption underneath saying whos who and where and what? Cos well as you know being Jane im naturally easily confused  but nah honestly it would be helpful if it was possible to have who the teams are in the photos.
Well Napiers nice, apart from its raining and I came up hear for sunny weather, but all is cool.(apart from the occasional Ice Hockey withdrawal symptoms!!)

Yeah, the photos page will be getting an overhaul at some stage. I’ve been trying to find the best (ie: easiest) way to do it, and I think I’ve come up with something recently. It’ll take me a while to get it up and running though, and my darned laptop broke yesterday and now wont boot. Have just resurrected a REALLLLY old PC with like 32 MB RAM and stuck Linux on it, now need to learn how to use Linux before can sort out the photos gallery! This might take me a while but I’ll get there eventually, or I’ll fix my laptop, whichever comes first.

Thanks for the comments though, I wouldn’t have added the text otherwise. I could add the text to the current photogallery but it’s a pain coz I need to modify like a billion pages. The new design should be much easier to deal with – if it works.

Playing and talking to some of the Aardwolfs last night, got me to thinking – Dunedin teams really should take up this touring thing. Or, at least, take a weekend next season, and go to Christchurch. You could fit in 3 or 4 games easy, travelling up Saturday morning, back Sunday evening. Wouldn’t cost too much at all.

The last time I’d asked about going up to Christchurch I’d been told there was no way of getting ice time before 12pm even in the summer.

However the Aardwolves said last night that any time from October to March there should be plenty of ice time available.

So I suggested they book us in some time and we’ll turn up. They weren’t keen on October as they have some other teams visiting around that time.

How about mid November? Would that be after or before uni. exams?
Travel up on Saturday morning, play a game in the afternoon, one at night, then another the next morning before heading back to Dunedin?

I’d suspect, that their ice is so busy, that if we wanted to do it next week, we’d be out of luck.

However with a couple of month’s lead-in, I’m sure they can rearrange things, as long as we work around them.

Just looking at the phantoms for example, a lot are students who would go home in mid-November. I wonder if we looked at the weekend that exams finish (last exam Saturday 11 November, but unlikely anyone would have an exam on the last day), then maybe people might fit it in as part of their trip home to up north. Either fly out of Chch, or keep on driving.

Or put it on the backburner and look at early next season – end of February or March.

hey man

Most exams are over by around nov 10th-ish, and i imagine most of us “students” are going home to mummy soon after, myself personally on the 5th of novemeber, so i imagine that the majority of the participants of this excursion out of the city boundaries will be those people who live in dunedin.

Well at this stage, only people in a few limited courses know when their exams finish, as the exam timetable doesn’t come out until mid-August. I think med students for example finish a week earlier than the main campus, but they also started a week earlier. If it was arranged now people could plan their travel home on the basis of the trip.

True true, but last year the health science, the major 1st year course, finished on oct 27th, and the last exam i knew of for otha courses was the 11th of nov, so still pretty similar dates as stated before.

Yeah, and I’m aware that if you live in a hall… sorry, college I believe now… they kick you out the day after the exam.

Anyway, it’s an idea. I’m not a student, so the weekend doesn’t affect me at all, but if we get feedback from those that are, that’ll give us something to work with.
