Are you serious? If anything I reckon we’ve been too soft on them. They’re scam artists out to rip off the public. I see no reason to give them any break of any sort. Their scum and should be treated as such.
March 30, 2011 at 9:58 am #10370vpatrolMemberThirteen beat me to it. I’ll send an apology to the promoters should the games prove to be all they claim however there is risk of damage to the game and its fragile but growing reputation in NZ. Two guys who know squat about the game are wielding a heck of a lot of public perception power.
March 30, 2011 at 8:53 pm #10371ActiveMemberNo one is asking you to go see them play. people may well go along and see an exciting game and be none the wiser. they may be dissapointed but so what? theres to many armchair critics around who are willing to beat an opportunity into a negative thing and thats whats happening here

[/quote:m6nqmh1j]What Thirteen said. The public are being deceived and that’s pretty crap. The only way the promotions and the event are getting such big attention is that the ticket prices are horrendous for the product, so they can afford to blow a couple of hundred grand on advertising.
But the risk to us is that people pay to see an ice hockey game and decide that ice hockey is a crappy game to watch. We’ve got a major international event three weeks later in Dunedin which we can’t put the tag ‘USA vs Canada’ on. If people walk out of that building unhappy with the experience of going to see an ice hockey game they won’t come back and see the Ice Blacks take on Australia and China, or Thunder vs Stampede.
If this was actually the an event of the level that was being promoted – even say a pre-season series between two NHL teams which is what I think we should be aiming at to have in NZ, it would be fantastic for our ice hockey.
March 31, 2011 at 1:28 am #10373thirteenMemberI will quite happily eat my word if the teams and games turn out to be great, or even if they bribg 2 teams of 3 lines of good players. they need 3 lines to make a good game, if they do i may even go, but i dont want to watch 2 lines of guys playing crap hockey because they are too tired

[/quote:3tu52ofv]We don’t have to go to the game to care. We are on the forums and at the rink doing things that have nothing to do with our own playing because we give a damn about the game in NZ. Anything that could put a massive dent in the games future is of a concern to us. I personally won’t sit back and watch. If the promoters were willing to actually work with the hockey community instead of trying to convince the naysayers that they are 100% right, then we wouldn’t be negative. Plus I don’t like being lied to and I don’t like the promoters assuming I’m too dumb to notice.
March 31, 2011 at 7:27 am #10375Rhys MMemberif you guys are so upset why dont you do something instead of bitching about it, its a opportunity for people to see hockey with far more advertising and promotion than I have ever heard for any hockey game before, as long as games are ok and get people its a good opportunity i see. you guys dont have to go
March 31, 2011 at 8:03 am #10376ChrisMemberI’m with Vince, Kyle, Ryan and Blake. These guys have broken the law several times in their attempts to rake in some cash. Now being a good Capitalist boy, I’m all for people making a buck or two, but in my opinion this is fraud. These guys have done everything they can to try and stop people talking about what these games will actually involve. As far as I’m concerned, they’re nothing but liars and cheats, and they’ll be doing New Zealand hockey no favours.
If this were really a value-for-money event, they wouldn’t need to resort to fraud.
April 1, 2011 at 1:25 am #10377ActiveMemberfraud = creative marketing?.
Im not even sure of what lying and cheating they apparently carried out and im not debating the ethics of their actions. My take on it is that these guys are putting big sums of money and their reputations on the line to promote ice hockey on a scale that none of us have ever had the gumption/knowledge/skills to even think about. It is in their best interests to get a quality product out there. If I was a promoter with lots of money invested and was asked “are you going to put out a good product or crappy product” I would say ” yeah its going to be amazing” even if I knew in my heart Rhys would never make it to the NHLApril 1, 2011 at 2:06 am #10378imported_RyanMemberI’m kinda stunned you guys are trying to justify their actions. These are twisted little con-men looking to scam an unsuspecting public. I don’t care if it’s even a hockey game. No one should be attempting to con people like that and expect to be treated nicely for it. It’s twisted and dishonest. The fact that it’s a hockey game just peaked our interest. I’d have been pissed at them regardless of the sport.
And it’s definitely fraud. They’ve been outright lying for a while now. When they get caught out with something, they change their tune and adjust. Things have been achieved through this topic too; I’m pretty sure Chris’s initial report to the commerce commission is what made them stop using the names “Team Canada” and “Team USA” in their advertising.

April 1, 2011 at 5:31 am #10380plod16MemberThere was a large article on these games in the Christchurch Press today and it was equally vague about who were actually going to play here!
For those who can, check it out online.

April 1, 2011 at 6:03 am #10382plod16MemberI have emailed it to you. It’s called April Fools….
April 4, 2011 at 11:16 pm #10383plod16MemberI noticed that there aren’t any NZIHL games scheduled to be played in the regions when this debacle is being played. I wonder if that means that there will be some games against the ‘locals’!
I still think we are better finding our own overseas competition to play against our teams, like the HC Storm team a couple of years ago.
