On the other hand though, if they make a good game of it, it could have huge benefits for the game in New Zealand. I might attempt to contact aaron miller, with him being the captain and all, tell him our concerns and ask tell him that we need the best possible hockey they can play for the whole game every game or else our development cpuld suffer? good idea or no?
July 8, 2011 at 2:47 am #10490vpatrolMemberdo you want to put the future of our sport in their hands Blake? The promoters have nothing to do with our sport except for one money making venture. I don’t trust them and will not applaud them if it goes off well.
I don’t think you would be our best representative with Aaron Miller either ” title=”Wink” />

Thats a kinda weird statement.
July 9, 2011 at 12:08 am #10493thirteenMemberWhat i am saying the vpatrol is that if all goes well then we may indeed find ourselves with a huge growth in the sport. There is a good chance this may be brilliant and we need to be prepared to deal with that fact, even if we dont like the way they have gone about this with all their dodgy shinanigans and not caring a toss about the game in NZ

Someone told me they were scared this could set the growth of hockey back 10 years in NZ.And for those who do know hockey are potentially going to be very disappointed at what they paid a lot of money for.
[/quote:3g2hyprw]This is my concern about what will happen a few weeks from now. Not that the hockey won’t be average – that I expect from the numbers and players that are now coming. People who know hockey well won’t be impressed. It’s the thousands of people that don’t know hockey – if it’s so bad that they can tell… our sport has been screwed. We’ve all worked too hard making slow steady progress to have someone take it away.
[/quote:3g2hyprw]This is a concern of mine as well, but TBH the biggest thing for me is that this is just plain, flat-out wrong.

Because it will have been by accident and they risked hurting our sport when they don’t care at all about it. When the money making opportunity is gone, so will they be. They won’t help clean up any mess so I won’t congratulate them if they make money off it and people like it. The betterment of hockey is not their intention.
July 18, 2011 at 12:08 am #10496GPMemberA question for those who are going to any of the games in the series:
Would you have still bought tickets with the info that is now available (size of rosters, players coming, running clocks) compared to the promotions when you first bought your tickets?
July 18, 2011 at 1:37 am #10497imported_RyanMemberI think most of the people in here were aware of the problems before the tickets were available.
July 18, 2011 at 2:15 am #10498vpatrolMembernot many people here have bought tickets although members of the general public who bought tickets, who have asked me about the game were very disappointed when discovering that it wasn’t team canada vs team usa as they were led to believe.
July 18, 2011 at 2:30 am #10499GPMembercheers
of those who haven’t bought tickets, what’s the main reason why not?

[/quote:8f7sja5z]Doesn’t seem worth spending so much time and money for such a mediocre product. I’ll get my hockey fix when I visit Dunedin next month.
July 18, 2011 at 3:16 am #10501Azzy77ModeratorWe have the NZIHL finals coming up.
The NZ winter games, featuring Australia, NZ, China actual international squads. That have complete teams, and will be playing actual stop clock hockey. The ticket prices are almost a third, and the rivalry are real not contrived. For the squads, rules, that the promotors have bought over the ticket prices are too expensive, they are more expensive than some of the seats at the upcoming All Black vs Fiji game.
In Dunedin its the same facility, I would say if I lived in Auckland/ChCh i might have gone, since its a bit unique to see Hockey in an Arena in NZ.
July 18, 2011 at 4:18 am #10502thirteenMemberyea im not going as i dont want to see two half teams play with half hearted enthusiasm, i would much rather wait and go to any of the games that azzy has just pointed out as they will be played with a passion that is real and cant be captured by two pick up teams on a holiday, no matter how good there players are or used to be. If you were in the USA would you pay $65 to go watch a game with troy flavell, sean fitzpatrick, craig dowd androbbie robinson play against john eels, ollie la rue and ian jones, with no reserves on each team that claimed to be New Zealand vs Australia, the two biggest teams in Rugby? this is what they are doing
July 18, 2011 at 7:40 am #10503KyleMemberI’ve been waiting to see rosters and how things went further up the country before deciding whether I’d go see them. Certainly not looking likely at present.
