I don’t like buying products from scammers. Plus it’s over-priced and the product may be crappier than what we get to see for free around here sometimes.
July 19, 2011 at 4:05 am #10505ActiveMemberId go if I could get in free otherwise Id much rather see a NZIHL or NZ vs Aus game as there is more emotional involvement. This game is more about entertainment for people who probably havnt seen ice hockey which is a good thing in my opinion

July 21, 2011 at 6:59 am #10510Azzy77ModeratorNice story tv3….Except the Winter games ice hockey is in Dunedin, not Queenstown.
So TV one claimed the games are being covered by ESPN!!! Really? Why would they care?
July 21, 2011 at 7:14 am #10511imported_RyanMemberI thought that was pretty shit actually. All talk from TV3 on Twitter, but no substance in the actual show. It was still advertising the event rather than going on the attack.

[/quote:3dx8lcx2]It’s possible they’re just pretending ESPN are covering it to make them sound more legit. Or perhaps ESPN said they were happy to receive the footage if it was sent to them. Doesn’t mean they have any intention of ever showing it though.
From Andrew Morrison of TV3:
[quote:3dx8lcx2]Promoter Craig Douglas says ESPN have requested it, but won’t play it live.[/quote:3dx8lcx2]July 21, 2011 at 10:07 am #10513vpatrolMemberEast Selwyn Public Network

wasn’t a bad video. didn’t like the olympic reference since they are unrelated but made it clear who was here and who wasn’t.
July 21, 2011 at 8:34 pm #10516GPMemberThe promoter managed to screw over tv3 by pulling out of an interview at 3 in the afternoon and told us we couldn’t film the rink either. We would’ve stuck it into the promoter more but the local guys are stuck in such a position that they need the series to be a success for it to hopefully trickle down into the local game.
I see the promoter is at it again in the herald, claiming hundreds of peoe turned up at the airport to welcome the teams. Yes there were hundreds of people there but only because it was the international arrivals with flights from London and LA landing, no one was there to see the players, and why would they.
And apologies to the Ice Blacks for getting the location wrong for the winter games.July 21, 2011 at 10:15 pm #10517Azzy77Moderatorhttp://www.nzherald.co.nz/hockey/news/a … d=10740050
The captains aren’t on good terms??? Did they just break up or something?
Like GP says 100’s of people are at international arrivals everyday, I liked how the Gouche announced them individually. Probably the Indian family waiting for their dad to come back wondered what the hell that guy was on about.
Also 30 players each side? In the photo their is not 60 people, and the team lists they have announced only have 22 players altogether in it.
I would like to hear a report, about Aucklands game. TV1 played up the ESPN angle.
July 22, 2011 at 12:04 am #10518vpatrolMemberI don’t see any trickle down to the local games. The promoter has nothing to do with the NZIHF nor the NZIHL. Through his own admission he knows nothing about hockey and has admitted that he doesn’t care about it either. Money is what drives him and there is no money in amateur sport. Disillusioned fans might be the legacy. If one good thing could come of this is that people who paid $200 to see mediocre hockey will be pretty stoked at the bargain price of $15 to see a more genuine version of the game in the NZIHL.
The promoter is promoting the spectacle side of things (fireworks and foam fingers) which consequently has nothing to do with the american ice hockey experience (a term he must of created himself). The game is irrelevant to the environment they’re trying to create. The assumption is kiwis know nothing about the sport and would be wowed no matter how bad the action actually was. They are trying to capitalize on suposed ignorance. NZIHL and our other leagues are all about the product on the ice and developing players. It’s not about circus acts. The two entities are incompatible in many ways.
I hope he actually loses money and therefore will think twice about wading into our sport ever again.
