Lol, just checked out their Facebook page. There sure is a lot of comments missing from there!
November 30, 2010 at 3:05 am #10280vpatrolMemberI do believe the logos of team canada and team usa are registered trademarks. They are displayed on the chests of the 1980’s images those folks display on their site.
November 30, 2010 at 3:06 am #10281ChrisMemberYep, they really don’t want people asking questions.
The irony of this whole situation is that if they’d just been honest about what they were marketing, the whole hockey community (me included) would have been really excited about it!
And Re: Trade Marks, maybe they are registered, but it’s for the owners to protest, not me.
December 1, 2010 at 12:30 am #10282Azzy77ModeratorAfter about 2 years of emailing, and 2 weeks of solid commenting on their facebook page.
They have final come forward and said they will have two “invitational” sides from Canada and USA, so finally some honesty about who is coming. They also state there will be current NHL players coming, this is interesting, I will keep my eyes open to see if I can find out who these players will be……
There are a lot of players in the NHL though, so who they are will be interesting……
December 1, 2010 at 2:59 am #10283imported_RyanMemberFrom the [i:2is7dnzb]”International Ice Hockey-Game Three USA vs Canada”[/i:2is7dnzb] page on Facebook:
Just copying here in case it goes missing from their page if they fail to show up with NHL players in the end.
December 1, 2010 at 4:19 am #10284Azzy77ModeratorGood work.
I don’t see there being current NHL players due to insurance and other costs getting them released from their clubs.
Betteman is reluctant to release players for Olympics so I don’t see how the he would for some promoters from NZ. It doesn’t benefit them.
All I know is until people see names, they are going to have a hard job convincing people this is real.
That being said if they get current NHL players (good ones) I will eat my hat, and purchase tickets and go….. But lets see some names first.
I think that the longer the names are hidden the more credibility they lose…December 1, 2010 at 4:33 am #10285vpatrolMemberi would pay to see ahl players play simply because its in NZ and I don’t have to pay for an airline ticket. However due to their dubious claims so far and questionable advertising, I will be waiting and seeing until the akl show takes place (if it actually does) and then get reports on who is there. I don’t trust the motives of someone saying they are trying to grow the game here yet they don’t consult with the national federation. They schedule games that would conflict with our national league. Our league is what is growing the game.
It would take some serious savvy as Azzy says to convince nhl players who aren’t planning on retiring to come and risk injury by playing here. I’m not sure the organisers have that savvy considering they didn’t previously approach the federations which would have given them access to their membership. The members are instant customers. When people want to hear about ice hockey in NZ, they check out the established sites, not Douglas Webber’s site. Just seems like silly mistakes.
December 2, 2010 at 10:26 pm #10286ToddtheFoxMemberHey,
I also had comments deleted from the Facebook page. I will probably go to all the games anyway, if I can afford it, but the fact that they are being dishonest about the teams that are coming is fairly frustrating.
December 2, 2010 at 10:45 pm #10287Azzy77ModeratorHey Todd welcome to the forum….
Most of us here agree that we will probably do go to one of the games, depending on who they actually bring. If it ends up being two beer leagues I will keep my $80.
The dishonesty is our biggest concern too, we want to see good hockey in this country. But don’t lie to get us there. We will just leave disappointed, and most likely demand our money back due to false advertising.
December 6, 2010 at 8:12 am #10288Rhys MMemberForgot to mention guys……. Im quite close personal friends with Kevin Milne from fair go…. maybe we could them involved??
December 7, 2010 at 2:49 am #10289Azzy77ModeratorAnyone else notice on their Christchurch floor plan they have split the stands to Team Canada and Team USA supporters?
Did you notice how I didn’t say USA and Canadian invitational teams, well I didn’t because they have used the logos, of the respective official national teams.
Why don’t they stop lying. They are not helping me have any faith in any claims they make….
December 7, 2010 at 6:09 am #10290vpatrolMemberI like how the most expensive corporate seats are located in spots where the least expensive seats usually reside. These guys must be hockey people through and through!
…maybe supporter sections have nothing to do with the teams on the ice. Perhaps they just want fans of those national federations because they are great fans who will support non affiliated teams?
December 8, 2010 at 10:22 am #10291Azzy77Moderatorhttp://www.youtube.com/user/douglaswebbergroup?feature=mhum#p/a/f/1/_-uHymkWesY%5B/url:2ko9z0dn%5D
They now have youtube channel with this comment
“A taster of what you can see live at International Ice Hockey-NZ. Check out internationalicehockey.co.nz for event details.”
Based on the videos, we will see lots of hockey from the mid-late 90’s as well as fights at a ration of roughly 2-1 compared to fighting?
I would be interested to see how they can contrive bad blood between two invitational teams.
I smell slapshot 2(the movie)…..December 8, 2010 at 10:46 am #10292imported_RyanMemberThey’re still referring to it as “Team Canada” vs “Team USA” …
December 8, 2010 at 8:40 pm #10293vpatrolMemberBad blood in the era of insurance and contractual obligation to nhl teams (assuming they haven’t lied about that as well)??? I’d be surprised if it was as serious as someone pulling out a glove from their lapel pocket and slapping another player with it.
