Harsh!
February 16, 2011 at 11:58 pm #10310Azzy77ModeratorFor all those that haven’t heard.
Rob Schremp (Islanders) and Kyle Quincy (Avalanche) have been named captains of the two teams, so apparently they did get real NHL players.
February 17, 2011 at 9:24 am #10311imported_RyanMemberThey’ve got the media referring to “Team USA” …
http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/CU1102/S … series.htm
[quote:67ahc27e] Team USA will be looking for redemption after their 3-2 loss to Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics and they?ll be doing it in one of the unlikeliest countries of all – New Zealand. [/quote:67ahc27e]No mention of Team Canada though. I’m guessing they’ve decided they can’t refer to them by that name.
Such a pity that these countries are being misrepresented like this.
February 17, 2011 at 11:32 pm #10312Azzy77ModeratorWhat seems to be going on, is that Dougal and Webster have made a deal whereby players on their off-season can holiday in NZ and then play games on the side.
So they can’t name teams until July because they won’t know who is tied up with playoffs or injured etc, and don’t want to not deliver which is noble.
I think the reason they are not publicising this is that they want to maintain the illusion that it is Team Canada and Team USA, not just a bunch of NHL and AHL players on holiday.
People would still go though, but it would just be more honest if they said they were getting NHL players to come who are on there holiday, but we will let you know when we know who we have.
Instead of this smoke and mirrors game they seem to like playing.

[/quote:3hi20b74]that’s not the media. Scoop is largely a press release site – they’ve just published the release put out by the promoters.

February 18, 2011 at 8:12 pm #10315Azzy77ModeratorWell if that is there own press release then they are slipping back into their own lying ways They know that it is not the same team at the 2010 Olympics, it is not even closely related, and they should not be creating the illusion that it is.

More like the players have been carefully selected to see who wants to on holiday to NZ, at that time of the year. If they had been carefully selected to bring you biggest action sports event of the year, we would know a roster now.
Also since when is Ice Hockey an action sport?? An action sport is what you see at the X-games Skateboarding, BMX, FMX, snowboarding etc.
Ice Hockey is a SPORT, not an action sport just another reason why I am not sure about the benefit to ice hockey in NZ by these games, if they are being ran as an action sport

They were regurgitating the same crap on radio in Wellington. I quoted the Scoop article as that’s where many other articles on the web were linking back to and possibly where the radio got it from.

March 8, 2011 at 2:21 am #10319imported_RyanMemberI wonder if those morons at Douglas Webber realise how much of a mockery they’ve now made of themselves with the local hockey community by using the Moose for this?
Unless they’ve beefed their playing level up significantly since they were here last, the level of these games is going to be lower than that of the NZIHL teams we see regularly.
Last time the Moose played here, they got their asses handed to them on a plate by Queenstown. And the standard of NZ hockey has increased quite a bit since then.

March 8, 2011 at 2:37 am #10321imported_RyanMemberQuality is very important to them it seems:
[quote:wcj9wve4]Selection will be on a ?first come, first serve? basis.[/quote:wcj9wve4]And since when was Lake Tekapo “created” by a hydroelectric dam? Isn’t it a natural lake which provides water for a hydroelectric generator?

I notice their brochure doesnt have Shremp of Quincey as Captains either…its Darryl Shannon and Mike Wilson. Who are they?? Havent followed hockey long enough apparantly!
March 8, 2011 at 7:38 am #10323KyleMemberhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darryl_Shannon
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Wilso … _hockey%29Both were genuine NHLers, both have three figure games under their belt, but both long gone from the NHL. Shannon has been retired for about six years. Wilson played in Europe for a number of and then the ECHL after leaving the NHL.
I would have guessed, though it’s not clear from the material that Shannon and Wilson are the captains of the Canadian moose oldtimers teams that are travelling with the main senior teams, and than Quincey and Schremp are the captains of the senior teams that will play the headlines.
