Hi,
As some of you all may know I’m organising a intermediate checking series over the next 6 or so weeks starting the 14/7 with a practice and a 5 games series following that over the following 5 weeks. The games will be played on Tuesday nights at 8.30 will be 15 minute running time.
10 players and a goalie per team so everybody should get plenty of ice time.
Cost is $70 for the 5 games and the practice. This is pointed towards those intermediate level players who want to play checking and at a higher level than the DIHL
Since there is a limited number of players being accepted the quicker you let me know the better, we will also require backups in case people cant make games or get injured.
You will need to be a Dunedin registered player to play
If you want any more information let me know
Either post here or message me if you would like to be involved
Cheers

[/quote:2531m0zo]As far as I know it’s essentially an open competition so long as you aren’t blindingly good or totally suck. That’s just what I picked up from the grapevine though, Callan will know for sure.
July 7, 2009 at 2:26 am #12269MaccaMemberBasically anybody is allowed to play, Unfortunately at this stage its only for males as my understanding of the rules in Dunedin females are not allowed to play checking above the midget level otherwise the committee will have to make a change. But I could be completely wrong there.
I would also suggest you are at least 16 years of age and over due to the size etc of some of the players already playing.
July 7, 2009 at 2:26 am #12270Azzy77ModeratorActually under IIHF rules females aren’t allowed to play Checking hockey
July 7, 2009 at 2:27 am #12271KyleMemberYou have to be eligible to play contact as per nzihf rules. Females aren’t allowed to play checking with seniors so only females able to play would be goalies.
(Females are allowed to play checking in midgets and junior games in New Zealand).
July 21, 2009 at 12:16 pm #12272ChrisMemberWow, that was a fun first game!
Laing gets put in the box for no apparent reason, but as a consolation prize gets to take out Li centre ice.
[b:34abvo2n]Sooo[/b:34abvo2n] good to be back in the game!

Does the ice explode? I don’t actually see a problem?
Wouldn’t it be like if we wanted to play touch up icing in a league we just make that a local rule?July 21, 2009 at 10:07 pm #12274imported_RyanMemberThere does not seem to be a problem with creating local specific rules. It was allowed within NZIHF regulations last time I checked.
July 21, 2009 at 11:03 pm #12275KyleMemberNot according to the NZIHF last time we checked.
The short answer to ‘what happens’ is ‘most likely nothing’, at least for us. Other associations that are more prominent overseas might get come down on hard for not following the rulebook.
There could be a risk of liability. Players ACC coverage and our insurance is partially based upon us following an international rule set. There’s a small chance that the association or the rink could end up in trouble down that path.
