Tess had my arm in a lock like she was trying to give me a cuddle, for god’s sake! I would happily have gotten out of her way if she’d let me go.
EDIT: Not that I mind Tess trying to molest me, but on the ice? Honestly! ” title=”Wink” />
May 7, 2007 at 1:39 am #2325KyleMemberExcuse me while I add Chris to the list of players who didn’t agreed with a call when they were put in the penalty box. My what a long list is it!
And on the other side… the very short list of players who admitted that the referees got it right.
The style that you play Chris is often pushing the boundaries of interference, so you can expect to get called on it sometimes. I’m sure Phil Handcock would be happy to talk to you about why, which might help you adjust your play.
I have a similar thing, but mine is holding. I have a long reach so I often reach around players and try and knock away the puck. It doesn’t take much for that to end up being a holding call.
May 7, 2007 at 1:44 am #2326ChrisMembermmm, yes, that’s very true, I do border on interference a lot and I know that I also come pretty close to boarding people a lot. Of this, I am very much aware.
However, that particular instance was just very very obviously Tess trying to detach my forearm from the rest of my body.
Yes, I disagreed with the ref. It’s not like I physically attacked him or anything, or even swore. Let’s not get toooo damn precious about it, hmm?

[/quote:xww4h9si]That wasn’t precious. That was me poking fun at you. You inspired me ” title=”Smiley” />
May 7, 2007 at 4:56 am #2328JasonMemberOne way or another you still deserved a penalty because you decided to argue with the ref, whether you deserved it or not deal with it, shut up and go to the box like a good boy. Don’t argue with the ref and make yourself look like an idiot by doing so.

May 7, 2007 at 5:33 am #2331KyleMemberAlright. The whole making picks for Sunday night games doesn’t work for me, but I can assure you that I would have picked both these games the way they worked out.
First up, Kings vs John McGlashan. Both teams decided to try and creative method of not brining their regular goalies. Kings fielded Bley in goal, though he missed the first bit of the game due to thinking he was playing at 8pm, Johnnies fielded Oli Wilson. Oli was really creative, adopting a “drop the stick every time someone shoots at me” method. Kings manager Keilor retaliated by knocking the stick away into the corner, a goalie interference call if ever I saw one! Anyway, the game went well, I thought Kings might struggle a bit with Neil, King, and Williams all away, but they still got up with three 3rd period goals to take it 5-2. Paired goals for Ben Speirs and Jamie Teasdale, along with a good game by Bley to keep out over 90% of shots and see his team through. That game and the following one will see Johnnies unable to make the final this league, they’ll be looking ahead to playing Bears, while Kings will be lining up the Beasts for the final two games.
Bears vs Beasts. Bears were woefully short for this game, with almost all their peewee players still coming back from Queenstown after knocking over the local peewee team (go peewees!). Stevenson and Matthews signed up to play to help them out. Bears up early off a coast-to-coast goal, but Beasts back in it with the next three. Goals were split in the last game – a point shot where Larry Martin somehow missed out on an assist for passing it back, but Cecil-Cockwell gets it for the faceoff, and Sedgwick wraps up a 4-2 win for Beasts. A good game overall, Wood stopped 17 of 21 shots after playing two games earlier for the peewees. She’s a rising star that one.
Next week is the last week of the round-robin, and it should be a repeat the week after in the finals. Johnnies play Bears, in a repeat of a drawn match first time around, and Kings take on Beasts, Kings took it out well last time, Beasts will be looking to be better this time.

Jason doesn’t like to cause trouble and confrontation. I do. I have a statutory right to free speech, and I choose to exercise it.
May 7, 2007 at 8:23 am #2333JasonMemberI don’t mind causing trouble or confrontation, I don’t like making a constant ass of myself.
The way I see it if you take a penalty and in doing so you prevent a goal or it a was warranted then by all means do so. But if you’re going to take a penalty just cause you like to argue with the ref then the whole team gets to play shorthanded for the next 2 minutes.
While you have a right to free speech, you voluntarily play as a member of the IIHF and play by their rules.
Rule #201 says “Players that do not wear a ‘C’ or ‘A’ on their jersey shall not be granted the privileges of conversing with the Referee.”
“A complaint concerning a penalty is not a matter relating to the interpretation of the rules and shall be penalized. — Misconduct Penalty “
If you have a problem then kindly discuss it with Jack, or Andy or myself and we can talk to the ref.

I was going to the penalty box anyway.
So next time, you talk to the ref.
May 7, 2007 at 8:40 am #2335rookie19MemberEasy on the refs boys and girls!!
Refs do a great job here, mabye in the game players get a bit fired up over a call, in the heat of the moment thats fair enough; but lets not worry about bad calls the day after boys!! Reffing is bloody tough, and it takes a long time to get good at it, so let keep the critisism constructive!!
Peace and godbless refs,
STIFFMay 7, 2007 at 8:49 am #2336ChrisMemberWhy does everybody seem to assume that this is “ref bashing”?
Is discussion no longer appropriate in a discussion forum?
If not, then I have been most seriously misinformed

Discussion is fine. Anything which upsets our refs is not. Sometimes those two things crossover. They don’t mean to make mistakes but they may take offense to criticism. Admittedly I think Phil can handle it, you’re not exactly tearing chunks into him, but it doesn’t encourage new people to sign up as refs when they know they’re going to be subjected to critique in public like this.
Ryan,
May 7, 2007 at 10:20 am #2338ActiveMemberMe personally, i think this open critique of refs is healthy, positive and an essential part of being a ref, and besides, I know exactly who to unfairly pick on when Im reffing next. Chris isn’t it, Beasts, yeah! that blue team.
Ive never liked blue!Refs
