Can you explain to me exactly what was happening? Was the goalie dropping his stick completely out of his hands, or dropping it too the ice ala balfour paddle down method?
Did Iain just go up and hit it away, or run into it sending it to the corner?
Just want to get a mental picture (a picture in my mind, not one that should be certified in case some smart alec is going to suggest that)
May 7, 2007 at 11:27 am #2340KyleMemberUmm. The JM goalie was dropping the stick completely to the ice in front of him whenever a show was coming in, and trying to stop it with his blocker by catching it from what I could see (I was goal judging, so I was on the wrong side to see exactly what he was doing).
Anyway, the kings player was in front at the top of the crease and the puck was off in the corner and he swept the stick way out to the opposite corner with his stick. I’m not sure if he sent it that far deliberately, or just swung at it to move it away and it just went that far.

I’d like to point out that while you have a right to free speech, this discussion forum is run by a private individual for an incorporated society. Neither of those two things are at all required to protect your free speech. Indeed there’s a whole heap of things in ice hockey which prevent free speech, starting with the rule about what you can say on the ice and who can say it.
And Ryan’ll stomp over anyone’s free speech on here as much as he wants. It’s his forum, if you want free speech you’ll need to go start your own one.

I PM’d Ryan about it. He can share if he wants.

May 7, 2007 at 1:00 pm #2343tessMemberemoticons do not make that reply any less terrifying, chris.
and for the record, i’m all about putting you in the penalty box. how you manage to talk a mile a minute on the ice, in the lockerroom, and on the forum is beyond me.May 7, 2007 at 2:42 pm #2344rookie19Memberladies…

May 7, 2007 at 7:58 pm #2345KyleMemberA Grade tonight. Ooh, quick, get some picks together.
Tonight will see the last game of the first round-robin. Teams will be looking for a win to cement their positions and get ahead. Last week was close – any of the four teams could have won their games.
First up, Johnnies take on the Sharks. Johnnies have been having all sorts of problems so far, they got their first win last week over a very short Bullfrogs, but now they’re hung out without a goalie (rugby injury!), and no signs of being able to find a replacement. If they can’t fix that the Sharks will eat them up. Sharks will be looking for Wilson to be back in the lineup tonight, if he’s there, they should beat Johnnies quite convincingly. My pick: I’m picking Johnnies will end up with someone reasonable between the posts, but still go down. First win for Sharks, 3-2.
Phantoms vs Bullfrogs. Phantoms have been looking pretty good so far this DIHL, and under normal circumstances, I’d have to make the pick for them to win. Bullfrogs have played short, and will be short again tonight, and they’ll be missing Kibbelwhite’s defence with him not making the trip in from Roxburgh. However, Bullfrogs and hoping to pick up a late import to the team – a chap called Jacques, who’s just arrived in NZ from South Africa, via Ireland. Nothing’s concrete at this stage, but if he turns up at 9pm tonight, I’m picking Bullfrogs to pull a draw out. My pick 2-2.
May 7, 2007 at 9:45 pm #2346PhilMemberJust to put a few things in context for readers of the forum – just because Chris claims a bad call does not make it a bad call – I must have put you in the box at least 15 times right Chris, and every time you’ve protested your innocence – this was a good call. It should however have been made on one of your earlier infringements and I let the game get away in that sense. I called this one cos after being knocked to the ice a few times already, this player started to push back. Obviously she had had enough, so time to get you off the ice. I realise that stability and skating is still a challenge for you and we give you the benefit of the doubt, but this is non-checking hockey which means if you are playing a player rather than the puck you are going to be prone to penalties. And disputing a late change call…. please! Talk to your team mates and they will explain that rule to you. In fact listen to your team mates and save your breath for skating.
By the way I think Mark was aware that deliberately hitting the goalies stick away should have been a penalty, he just didn’t call it at the time in the Kings game.
On a more positive note, the new refs on ice are doing a great job and really helping the sport grow here.
cheers
May 7, 2007 at 11:17 pm #2347twoleftsMemberchris you were talking so much we don’t know how you managed to get anything done!!
May 7, 2007 at 11:22 pm #2348Jono_MemberI think we can all agree that its getting rather annoying to see the constant dribble of whinge coming from one guy getting binned on the forum. Get over it buddy.
What I do find entertaining is the idea of that Johnnies goalie deciding he’s better without a stick, now thats confidence in ones agility! Lets hope tonights game we dont go one step more than them and actually end up without a goalie, letalone a goalie who doesn’t like their stick! As Aaron is clearly a Johnnies old boy, tonight has gotta signify the right time we stole him back to our ranks (making their goal empty, possibly a knockout puch you may suggest!).May 7, 2007 at 11:42 pm #2349KyleMemberI’ve just received emails from a couple of Bullfrogs who are injured or sick and unable to play tonight. The team is going to be real short of numbers (we only started with 9 skaters, and two injured and one not coming in from central leaves us with 6), so if any A grade level player wants to come along tonight and play a game at 9pm, contact me on kyle.matthews@otago.ac.nz and let me know.
Cheers,
KyleMay 8, 2007 at 3:47 am #2350battered_and_bruisedMemberHey Kyle, Stefan here, cant be bothered logging out and in.
For the game tonight, we could split the teams if you want, but you guys can default. I know it sounds silly, but if you cant field as team at least there would be a game. Anyway let me know so i can sort jerseys or whatever tonight.
Peace
May 8, 2007 at 4:10 am #2351KyleMemberNo we’ve got a team.
Just not a large one ” title=”Sad” />
Pete offered to drag Mike Sam down, but given that we’re already hoping to bring in one ringer who’s probably pretty good, I thought it’d be a bit rude to bring in a second. If Jacques doesn’t turn up (I didn’t get a contact phone number unfortunately) we might make an emergency phone call to Mike.
I’ve hit up a couple of Beasts to see if they’ll play, so the balance doesn’t get out of whack, but no use.
I’ll see how we’re looking at the beginning of the game, maybe a shark or two will want to help us out. I was trying to add casual players to the lineup without stacking the team unfairly, so I’ll keep trying to do that.

EDIT: When I said Tess was a “big” girl, I meant old enough and tough enough. If she thought I’d called her fat, I’d be in the poo….
May 8, 2007 at 4:54 am #2353battered_and_bruisedMemberSweet as kyle, we arent too worried who u bring, i just mean if we get on the ice and your team has 3 players, at least if we know before hand we can lend jerseys and sort it before hand. Sounds like youl have a few, so no worries.
We may only have 2 subs again it depends who turns up i guess! So it may be small team against small team.See everyone there tonight.
Peace and godbless phantoms and their greatness ” title=”Cheesy” />
