I certainly enjoy your picks. You even seem to have justification behind many of them. They certainly make victory all the sweeter too!
What happened in the phantoms game last night? Anything of note, like last week?May 30, 2007 at 12:35 am #2415KyleMemberBoth games last night were real close, with goalies being pulled in the last minute to try and get draws.

Last time the two teams played Johnnies took it 4-0, but they also pulled in Toby Schuck as their goalie for that game, so tonight’s game will be really interesting. Sharks pulled off a really big win last week against a tiring Phantoms team, and might have finally hit their straps. I’m picking this to be a big game, and I’m going with Sharks to win it 4-2.[/quote:kahpe7m1]John McGlashan take it 2-1. A controversial first goal which I awarded on a ‘did it or didn’t it go into the net off the crossbar’ call, to Wadworth, and then a nice goal to Blake Sinclair off two assists, before Sharks got one back from Sam Smith off Zane, but were unable to get the tying goal. Johnnies missed the open net on a length of the ice shot, which coasted calmly through the crease. That sees Johnnies through to the final next week, Sharks will play off for third against the Bullfrogs.
"Kyle":kahpe7m1 wrote:Secondly, Phantoms take on Bullfrogs. First time these two teams played it finished up a draw, and the Bullfrogs might swoop in and spoil Phantoms home run, after Phantoms stumbled badly last week in the last period to lose to the Sharks. I’m thinking it’ll be close, 2-2 draw with a late Phantoms goal to tie it up.
[/quote:kahpe7m1]Topsy turvy game. Bullfrogs took some early leads in the first two periods, but were 3-2 going into the last, when both teams traded two goals – Bullfrogs tying it up twice. Play of the day, Simon Christos skating right down to the goal line (the puck was literally on it when he shot) and then somehow finding a hole to get the puck into the net through (off?) Bullfrogs goalie Schuck. First Bullfrogs goal kindly provided by Phantoms player King, who knocked a Kemp pass that I was never going to get to into his own net. He celebrated in style too.
Final next week.
June 3, 2007 at 9:50 pm #2416KyleMemberOK, we have (more) updated statistics. These cover B grade to the end of the round robin competition, but are a little dated on the A grade (only first 3 rounds). We’ll tidy up the end of the stats after the A grade final tomorrow night.
Thanks to Aaron for compiling these.

June 3, 2007 at 10:29 pm #2417KyleMemberOooh the big final. Tomorrow night. Let’s start by looking back a bit over the team’s seasons.
Bullfrogs. After a good start, with a win over the Sharks, and a draw with the Phantoms, the Bullfrogs have slumped to being the team that almost was. Two close losses to Jonnies, and similar losses to Phantoms and Sharks in the run home have seen Bullfrogs finish last. A short lineup, and the loss of quality defenseman Andrew Kibbelwhite after the first round really hurt the team. Last game they were either screening the goalie, or letting the Phantoms players through, something they’ll want to sort out tomorrow night.
Sharks. This team kicked through fairly well after a bad start to the season, and played probably the best game of the competition when they got over the Phantoms 4-3 in a real thriller. They weren’t quite able to do it last week against Johnnies so they’re playing off against Bullfrogs. Inconsistency cost them – at times they were great, but at other times, it just wasn’t there, and they weren’t able to match it against Johnnies when it counted.
John McGlashan OB. Great to see this team in the competition, and well done to Johnnies and John Bradfield for pushing hockey up there on the hill and stretching out to another team. After a first week shocker they got their lineup sorted, and despite scrabbling around for goalies every week, they’ve played well out on the ice and finished up convincing second place. Solid defense has really helped them out – Jackson, Sinclair, Weir, Stevenson – that’s a good D lineup.
Phantoms. Form team of the competition, Phantoms have played short all DIHL, but have largely kept on winning. A single draw against Bullfrogs, and a close loss to Sharks have been their only slipups, otherwise they’ve been strong throughout, and plenty of talent to put the puck in the back of the net. They’ll be fired up for a big final.
OK, you’re all here so you can harass me at the end of Tuesday when I make the picks wrong, so let’s get straight onto it. First up, Bullfrogs vs Sharks. The teams split these games in the round-robin, so no help there. Sharks have the numbers, but Bullfrogs have come awfully close a number of games, and I’ve just got the feeling that they’re just waiting to get it together before finally getting over the line (feeling = hope!). I’m picking the game to be close, Bullfrogs to take it 3-2 near the end of the game.
And the big final. Phantoms take on Johnnies OB. First up, I understand both Jenel Bode and Steve Jackson won’t be there for the OB, but they’re calling in wily Larry Wheeler to play in place, and that their goalie is going to be big Toby Schuck, who saw them through against the Sharks earlier with a big shutout. So I figure that’s about even in terms of swapsidaisy. Phantoms are going to have their normal short lineup as far as I know. Key for Johnnies – I think Phantoms will get tried, so if they work hard, dump and chase, and make the Phantoms skate, then they’ll fall off in the third period. That’s when Sharks beat them, and that’s probably the weakness – just not enough players. Key for Phantoms – some of that individual brilliance that saw a couple of great goals last week against the Bullfrogs. If they’re two or more up going into the last period, they should get through on the hype of the final. My pick – I’m picking it’ll be an overtime victory, 2-2 at the end of ordinary time, with it to go to golden goal, Phantoms to take it, manager King to get the winner.
June 3, 2007 at 10:39 pm #2418battered_and_bruisedMemberIt will be because of those pink laces he has been wearing ” title=”Wink” /> lol
June 4, 2007 at 1:09 am #2419KyleMemberActually, after in depth and careful consideration, I’m going to reverse that last one, pink laces or not! Just for Jono really.
Johnnies to get the game winner in overtime. I’m picking Mannerswood to get the game winning goal.

I really hope this is the first week you pick out game right! But thanks, your so very kind!
Oh and Steve and I have been one D line this year, the other has been Blake and Matt. Not sure who Stevenson is, but he’s not playing D!June 5, 2007 at 1:26 am #2421KyleMemberI’m just guessing that Ben is who you’ll push back tonight, without Steve there.
He played D for the Phantoms earlier this year anyway.
June 5, 2007 at 1:54 am #2422Jono_MemberI see I see! I offer my apologies.
June 5, 2007 at 2:14 am #2423KyleMemberSee, you made the fatal error of assuming my picks are based on close attention to the teams, where people are playing, the spelling of names and whatnot.
As compared to the reality, which is “making up some rubbish for everyone’s entertainment”. If I got half your D lineup right in names, then that’s probably about as good as my picks ever get ” title=”Smiley” />
June 5, 2007 at 2:48 am #2424rookie19MemberO Kyle… not happy with the reverse of pick, its a big call haha! Ur not allowed to reverse “Kyles Predictions” anyway, its in the 2007 rulebook.
Should be a good game, Phantoms are gonna flick the switch this game!! As long as we can beat big Toby in goal!

[/quote:1ybp9mlm]You guys have a switch? No wonder Bullfrogs haven’t done so well this season – no one told us there was a switch!
At least now I know what you’re all giggling about in the changing rooms. Checking each other out, looking for the switch.

Might see if we can send someone to find that switch before the game and make sure its duct taped off! In fact we’ll be looking for the fuse box. That way by the time you’ve found some fuse and gone and repaired it, we will hopefully have a advantage!
I agree it should be a good game . Stoaked we have Toby in goal. Its awesome knowing we have a goalie before skating onto the ice actually. But to get one that good makes for many smiles.
June 5, 2007 at 4:14 am #2427ChrisMemberThe question I have is not the location of the switch, but who turns the Phantoms on?
June 5, 2007 at 4:23 am #2428battered_and_bruisedMemberWell no one really turns us on, it’s more Zanzee’s random and very sexual and dirty comments that she makes and doesn’t realise that they are dirty. I mean all hockey players are dirty and dodgy and you say something that could be taken the wrong way, it will be taken the wrong way by us.
