Who’s that sexy bastard giving a wee pep talk?
April 4, 2007 at 7:57 pm #2235KyleMemberI interpreted the photo as “hey guys. who knows how to play hockey?”, and only a couple of people have their hands up. And one guys not even paying attention!
April 4, 2007 at 9:12 pm #2236Paul RothMemberLooked like a prayer meeting to me.
April 4, 2007 at 9:41 pm #2237JackMemberHell Yea!! We appeal for divine intervention before every game, obviouls he/she/it didn’t hear us this time, our score didn’t break double figures!!

Those pics are a little too grainy as they are now. At least for the action shot of me anyway (ISO 1000!), the static shots aren’t too shabby though ” title=”Smiley” />
cheers,
Ryan[/quote:1adjto3b]Ryan,
I’m already sacrificing quite a bit of shutter speed in that shot, I was down to 1/320 and to eliminate most motion artifacts I need to stay at or above 1/500. For the action shots I was using a Canon 70-200 F 2.8 IS lens and all my shots were at 2.8. For the Beast “who will play defense?” shot I used a 15mm 2.8 fisheye lens. I was disappointed by how grainy the iso 1000 shots came out. In a Pro rink you can get perfect files at iso 640 with a shutter speed of 1/500. I think I can get that if I turn the curling rink lights on. I’ll give it a go this weekend!Check out the stick blur in this shot at 1/500!

April 4, 2007 at 9:51 pm #2239JoeMemberIf I can get enough light I can make you look like this:

April 4, 2007 at 10:15 pm #2240KyleMemberYeah.
I know it’s lack of lighting that’s stopping me looking as good as an NHL player. They were going to call me up, but when they came to scout me, said that I wouldn’t look good enough in their promo photos.
Man I was ripped.
April 4, 2007 at 10:33 pm #2241KyleMemberI love this photo:

It looks like the goalie has said “fuck it, these guys are no good”, leaned his stick against the side of the net, and decided to play sans wood.
Apparently it’s a trend, here’s another one, but it’s a player stick:

The DIHL photos are great Joe. One of the things I’d like to push (Ryan and Michael really) towards is when the new stats system is up and running, use that to create player pages – which would have their stats, but also a brief bio and a photo. Having photos like the ones you’ve taken here would be great. Even if you’re not happy with the lighting, clearly you’ve got good equipment and know what you’re doing to get good shots.
That photo of Jaimee (the Bears goalie) is really nice. If I remember I’ll point out to Larry that it’s here, he might want to talk to you about getting a nice copy.

I do believe this was your breakaway and gooooal!
April 5, 2007 at 2:28 am #2243KyleMemberSweet! We’re going to have to move you into the rink Joe so you can take hundreds of photos of us all.
I always look so ungainly playing hockey. My body is designed more for basketball than ice hockey. And I have to get gear so big to get it long enough. And my skating style isn’t exactly technically brilliant. Other than that, I look like a pro ” title=”Smiley” />
Shame you didn’t take the shot a second earlier though. You would have seen Mr Jack Li floundering around as I intercepted the pass to him and zoomed right by him. He was still trying to finish a wee argument I’d started with him 10 seconds earlier about how when he lifts his stick up to his waist it really is a slapshot.
April 5, 2007 at 11:47 am #2244JoeMemberKyle, I already feel like I live there.
Here’s a pic of the black and whites….

I’ve never seen much use for them and definitely not for shooting hockey pics, but you’re using it to good effect there. Keep up the good work ” title=”Smiley” />
Ryan,
April 5, 2007 at 8:22 pm #2246JackMemberPft, you’re not getting off this easy next time kyle *wink* Now, I’m on the mend, I’m catching your fleeing ass next time! ” title=”Cheesy” />
Awesome photos btw Joe, very impressed eh, i don’t believe my fiance has ever been able to take any decent photos at the rink of me…. but then we only have a shitty sony cybershot ” title=”Tongue” />
Keep up the good work guys ” title=”Cheesy” />

April 5, 2007 at 11:44 pm #2247ChrisMemberWhy would Kyle’s donkey be running from you, Jack?
April 6, 2007 at 4:57 am #2248KyleMemberI keep telling you guys. No donkey. I do have a goat over my back fence though.
