I think I said I’d be down at the rink last night to collect DIHL registrations. Unfortunately my dog got hit by a car so life overtook me a little bit. I’ll be down there next Tuesday.
I also said I’d be down there on Saturday, but as it turns out there doesn’t seem to be any peewee game this Saturday, so I don’t think I’ll be down then either.
Any registrations can be given to Joyce and Jackie at any time however.
April 12, 2007 at 12:09 am #2250KyleMemberAnd I will be playing SNC this Sunday at 10am and 3pm, and probably doing some lining in the morning (maybe both the 8:30 and 11:30 midgets game). So people can give bits of paper and money to me then.
April 12, 2007 at 8:28 pm #2251MichaelMemberI don’t think im going to be able to get a form to you by then.
April 12, 2007 at 9:21 pm #2252KyleMemberIt’s a word document. Fill it in and email it to me. Or bring it on Monday to SNC practice.
April 16, 2007 at 10:03 pm #2253KyleMemberI’m hoping we’re going to see some more A grade entries real soon, as currently we don’t have enough people entered to run a competition.
People who were hoping to play A grade, but who haven’t entered yet…. send me an email or post here or phone/txt me on 021-113-0236, or best of all, bring a registration form tonight to me between 6 and 7 to the rink with money.
Obviously we need entries soon so that we can put teams together and put out a draw. If we don’t get a bunch more people soon, we’ll have to look at the numbers and think about whether it can go ahead.
April 17, 2007 at 12:54 am #2254JaneyMemberAttention: if anyone sees a wee hatchback two door, maroon coloured suski swift (with a slight dent near the right front light where I nicely parked my car into a stone wall) driving around 9 chances out of ten its mine and is no longer in my possession so if you would kindly follow them and then some how get it back to me! that would be greatly appreciated.

April 17, 2007 at 11:44 pm #2256KyleMemberI’m going to try and make my picks a bit early this week, as I missed last round due to… well, missing.
A grade starts on Tuesday, but we haven’t sorted teams or anything yet, so I’ll make those picks during or after the weekend.
B grade, coming to the end of the first round-robin. That’ll give us a good idea of where the teams stand.
John McGlashan vs Bears: Bears have had a rough time of it so far, with a couple of losses, but so have Johnnies, so this will be an interesting to game to see relative pecking order. Johnnies have a good all-round team and good team play – passing, shots on net, working for rebounds, and shutting down Bears offense should see them take the game. For the Bears the task is harder. They’ve got a bunch of talented kids on the team, but they just struggle with skating speed, which means their attacks get shut down in the neutral zone a lot. Plus, they’re all having to carry their ‘olds’, so that’s hard. Their last game saw a great team goal however against the Beasts, and if they can continue to work on putting players into gaps with good passes, they might see a couple more. Probably their best hope of an upset though is for a couple of their better players – Hellyer, Kinraid, to head up ice and look to score a couple of non-assisted goals. Their ability to work well on defense and shut down Johnnies and help out goalie Jaimee Wood, who’s looked good so far, is also crucial. My pick: Johnnies to take it 5:2.
Kings vs Beasts: Top of the table clash here. Beasts are looking like the money team to date, but Kings have also had two good wins, and have improved well over last year. Both teams have some players that can score goals – King had a nice effort for Kings last week up the ice, and Beasts have three or four that look likely. For Kings to stand a chance, I think the Beasts goalie is going to need to have a rough night. If there’s only 10 – 15 shots, 3 or 4 of them are going to need to go in. Similarly, Kings goalie and defense is going to have to find form. My picks: Beasts to take it 5-3 with a late goal making it safe.
Off Ice: Janey’s car to turn up abandoned, in seriously bad condition. Sorry Jane ” title=”Sad” /> Kyle to referee four games over the weekend and to finish a third weekend in a row ‘seriously knackered’.
April 19, 2007 at 9:55 pm #2257KyleMemberFor A grade, I’m still looking for another couple of people to sign up, including rather desperately, one goalie. That’ll get us up to the four teams.
There should be an email coming out Saturday with a draw and team rosters, but assuming we can get a 4th goalie to agree to play, the A grade is looking pretty good.
April 22, 2007 at 4:51 am #2258Azzy77ModeratorWhy are the games so late on tuesday nights, if there are two games why don’t we play 7 and 8 instead of 8 and 9.
playing after nine gets the blood going to much so you can’t get to sleep to 1 o’clock and that sucks

Yeah, that sucks eh. SNC practice at 9pm, then game at 9:10pm the next night would be too little sleep for me.
Ryan,
April 22, 2007 at 11:40 am #2260KyleMemberThe A grade games start at 8 because the DIHA has scheduled powerskating from 7 – 8. Presumably they’ll get organised and that’ll start sometime soon, but the answer as to why the games start then, is that’s the time we were offered.

From there the game settled down and was played with good feeling. Johnnies got one back fairly quickly, but Bears pulled ahead again were playing well. Some of these peewee players are getting a heap out of coaching this year – nice passing around when they’re in the zone, setting things up well, I was impressed. Johnnies were working hard on getting an equalizer, and Bradfield thought he’d rammed one in by the post, but goalie Jaimee Wood had her pad on it and when the whistle blew the puck was sitting clearly on the line – no goal sorry! However a couple of minutes later a shot from a very high slot snuck in, and the game finished up a draw. Both teams finish with a point and the rematch in three weeks will be interesting.

The game was played at a fairly fast pace, and there was a bit of niggle out there, but nothing came to a head thankfully. Both teams played fairly well, but Kings were helped out by Harrison King who caused all sorts of chaos for the Beasts defence – he got his first goal straight from the opening face-off, and the Beasts just weren’t able to shut him down. I was surprised not to see them pick a player and have them stick to him like glue. Refereeing (and I say this as one half of the crew) wasn’t top-notch – we didn’t have a good system and missed a couple of things. There were also a lot of players crying foul when players were running into them however – remember, it’s non-checking, not non-contact, players aren’t always the best skaters and sometimes contact is just because people can’t stop.

Bloody aggressive goalies.
It will I suspect however be the ‘way of the future’. As more people play hockey, kiwi skating, adult skating etc, rink times are going to become more and more busy and times are going to head more towards the marginal side of things.
Eventually practices will all finish at midnight or something.
