Rhys, all my role models when i was leaning to play were drunk all the time, and i fell like i turned into a semi-respectable chap! Kids need to have someone fun to look up to, i know i wont want my kids not experiencing the fun side of life and laughing at alcoholic old people! we used to do pub crawls back from Naesby to gore when i was in peewees! the coaches would get plastered and we would get high on coke and raspberries! it was what hockey was about.
Id like to see that sort of thing implemented in the Dunedin club, but i feel that if any coach did that these days they would get fired. we live in sad times. man i feel old, im telling old people stories, i must be turning into a van leeuwan! god help me if thats the case!

I kinda get what you mean about someone fun but im not sure that a fun drunk is the type of person I and many others would look up to. Moderation and education I would advocate. I like having a few drinks but I dont like being drunk (unless Im having fun of course) and I certainly wouldnt advocate myself as a role model when im pissed or whatever.
And yes Blake like everyone you are getting old but thankfully we dont all turn into Van Leeuwens

Blake is like 21 or 22. The animal he lets live on his face makes him look old!

Blake is in perpetual playoff mode, hence the perpetual beard.

In the A grade, the Jets had a convincing 7-1 win over the Fine Young Chaps. Goals were shared around a lot, Jack Li got a nice one in from just past the blue line, top left corner. For the Jets, Toby Shuck was a godsend, and really showed his experience. Everyone played really well, even our less experienced players. Marc Pesant had a cracker of the game in the forward lineup, getting a ton of assists. James Van Leeuwen was… well, he was James – ’nuff said.

All round, a good start to the league!

Gotta love James’ skate to the red line, then shoot approach

Rather than create a separate practice for the DIHL players, we’re encouraging players (from all grades and teams) who want further practice to come along at Sunday 6pm, which is the beginners practice. We’ll split the ice as required for different skill levels to run drills. Blake, your assistance coaching would be welcome.

Kyle I would appreciate it if you posted commentary for the A grade teams as well. It’s a little hurtful when you are biased and only talking about the B grade teams the players in the A grade would love to hear you rant and rave about us!

I wasn’t aware that kyle was providing commentary this season.

I’m unlikely to see many of the games, so no commentary from me I’m afraid. If someone else can do it it’s always popular.
