[b:2vfsjai7]The Chiefs vs Superfly[/b:2vfsjai7]
The Chiefs are a solid team with plenty of experience (ie: lots of old farts on the team). The Superfly are an erratic bunch of hot headed teenagers. This combination is bound to create some sparks and we should see some good competition between the two teams. The big question is whether The Chiefs have enough fitness to keep up with the mega quick Superfly’ers. My pick: Superfly will score three points and The Chiefs one.[b:2vfsjai7]Bullfrogs vs Midgets[/b:2vfsjai7]
The Midgets are one of the most organised teams in the league and, despite their age, also one of the most experienced. The Bullfrogs have an eclectic bunch of players from the best in the league down to some of the newest players. The key to the Bullfrogs beating the Midgets will be for them to sort their defense out and stop the Midgets from cutting through the defense on breakaways. Puck possession will also be important as if the Bullfrogs can keep control of it as much as possible, the number of potential goal scoring opportunities will decrease rapidly. The Midgets are looking very strong though and they have a far greater depth of players than the Bullfrogs. My Pick: Bullfrogs 3 Midgets 6. The Midgets won’t be able to hold out against the power forwards on the Bullfrogs team, but the Midgets will also have no trouble slicing through the Bullfrogs defense. Whatever the final result, it is almost guaranteed to be a fairly high score.September 28, 2009 at 5:57 am #13832Rhys MMemberYup, sounds like their is some good competition all around, any picks for the a grade ryan, have you been following it?
My oick is jets to win a game with Chris “sunshine” Laing scoring a goal with a mighty slapper from the blue line

[/quote:28kb2jc7]Mate, you know my shooting skills are legendary. I usually go with a mean custom hybrid shot that I like to call the “Gentle Poodle”. Basically it’s like a hard slap shot, except it’s slow and slides along the ice, usually to either the far left or far right of the goal.
Catches those goalies out every time.

You [b:3pbz6428]so[/b:3pbz6428] copied that from me!
… which also explains why I’m in the B-grade and know jack all about the A-grade and hence aren’t providing any picks.
September 28, 2009 at 7:38 am #13835ActiveMemberIm picking a low scoring game between the jets and the Stars. The stars have probably the stronger better balanced team with lots of experience and a good goalie in Azzy. The jets have some very good players mixed with some less experienced players but they do have Toby in goal. Im picking more shots on goal from the stars but Toby is not going to let much past . 2-1 to the stars.

Nice vote of confidence Ryan.
September 28, 2009 at 11:22 pm #13837Rhys MMemberIm picking the bullfrogs, with the experince of the mighty Keith “mad dog” Dickson in the fowards this week, they may have a better ability to win providing they sort a good gameplay!

[/quote:1knxan7e]It’s a battle tactic known as “making the opposition feel over confident”. Either that or I think we’re about to get our asses handed to us on a plate by a bunch of ankle biters.
September 29, 2009 at 2:48 am #13839imported_RyanMemberStats for the league are now up over at the DIHA site … http://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/documents … WEEK-2.pdf
Interestingly it seems that Jaimee Wood is not playing in goal for the Midgets. If that is the case this week then we may see some more goals by the Bullfrogs.

Good game. Jets opened the scoring with a Van Leuween goal, after he was allowed to walk in, and Bryant failed to square up to him.
The Stars hit back with two quick goals from Dunlop (replacing Sam, Shane, Corey, and Duncan) to go into the Second period up by 2-1.
The Jets again opened the period scoring with a 2-0 breakaway, with Van Leuween scoring again. But the Stars scored 2 more goals to Dunlop to lead the period 4-2.
(Stars 4 5th goals and jets 3rd goals may or may not have been in periods indicated.)
The final period saw a tense finish with Van Leuween again opening the scoring to make it 4-3, Stars hit back and were up 5-3.
A late scrambling goal from Pesant with 5 minutes to go, gave the Jets hope. But the Stars hung on, to remain undefeated.September 30, 2009 at 3:27 am #13841KyleMemberI think Toby probably had nightmares about Heath last night. He was all over him high under the posts, several times with not much D support.
On the other side Lamb and VL were a good offensive pairing, Jets didn’t seem to have the D balance right to stop the better Stars players walking through.
September 30, 2009 at 9:01 am #13842Defense101MemberI think it was a really good game solid on both ends. The defense was decent through the game but Heath was getting good passes behind our defense and getting some great chances on Toby. Heath=Stars offense that game. On our side we had lots of chances but couldn’t capitalize. Couple of posts were rung with Bryant completely beat and some near miss shots. I have to admit though he had amazing puck control through the game. Great deflections over the glass and glove hand snags. Didn’t know what team James VLW was playing on until about the third period. He had a great goal on Toby ” title=”Cheesy” />
