Just to add to the Dunedin/Queenstown results chain.
Peewees played against Queenstown yesterday, won both games by good margins. Last year when they beat them once that was the first time Queenstown peewees had been beaten in the southern region for ages, now it looks like it’s a developing trend. Go the peewees!
Juniors also played them. They were close in the first game apparently, but lost it in the last period and finished up 3 (?) goals down. Joe apparently got them fired up for the second game and they came out really hard winning it 3-2 (I believe). That’s also the first time in ‘ages’ that the Queenstown juniors have been beaten in the SIHL.
All these games were played at Queenstown, so that’s beating QT at home 3/4 games yesterday.

Not to take away from the juniors victory, it was an awesome game from a spectators point of view, fierce hitting, and great action, however the team the juniors played was made up mostly of midgets from qtown, not their junior team. There was about 5 juniors in the lineup however, who played a lot of game.

Ryan,

ooo not happy, im no longer a moderator!! Haha na i have no idea what a moderator is, and how to add/delete posts, so i dunno why i was awarded that amazing role in the first place!! Well i guess it was fun while it lasted! ” title=”Cool” />
Peace and godbless the Sabres!!
May 7, 2007 at 8:34 am #3364imported_RyanMemberI agree then, that definitely doesn’t take anything away from the Dunedin Junior teams accomplishment then.
Aren’t the Dunedin team in the same boat anyway, ie: lots of midgets on the Juniors team.
Ryan,
May 7, 2007 at 11:21 am #3365KyleMemberI don’t think so.
I think it’s the midgets that have peewees playing for them, not midgets playing for juniors.

May 7, 2007 at 12:44 pm #3367JoeMemberWe were an all-junior squad this past weekend. Queenstown dressed quite a few more skaters than us, they ran 3 lines of forwards and 2 D’s and we skated 10 players – 2 forward lines and 2 defensive pairings. Also we spent quite a bit more time in the penalty box than Queenstown so the team had to really dig deep into their reserves for both games.
The penalties weren’t really a problem for us, typically I moved a D to forward for the PK so that I would have 3 defensive minded players on the ice for most of the penalty and it seemed to work well. In fact Zanzzy netted a key short handed (and un-assisted) goal for us in the second period of the second game.
Last week in practice we worked on the fundamentals of body checking and those new skills are really what won us the second game.
Both games were really close but the team played much better in the second game. It was a very physical match which allowed us to plug up the ice and prevent the Rangers from developing a cohesive attack. Our net minder Tony was busy in the first game — and played fantastic — but in the second game we were able to greatly reduce the number of Ranger shots on net while generating more opportunities at the opposite end of the rink.It was great to finish up the trip with the win and the team is ready to work on a plan for the re-match that will take place on home ice. The team we played are good skaters and we’ll have to play our best to beat them on big and fast ice that we have here in Dunedin.
May 8, 2007 at 5:46 am #3368imported_RyanMemberThese results sure to bode well for us. It wasn’t that long ago that some of our younger teams were getting royally thumped in the Southern League.

Ryan,
May 13, 2007 at 3:22 am #3372battered_and_bruisedMemberIf anyone is wondering, we tied Queenstown 2-2. They were trash talking us saying all this shit like they were gonna kick our ass and beat us, but again, we played our physical game and tied them after some questionable goals on both sides. We also beat Gore 9-3. Unfortunatly we lost that round because of goal difference because Queenstown beat Gore 13-0. But we have still won 2 out 3 rounds so far and we are looking good for this season.
May 13, 2007 at 11:07 am #3373KyleMemberNice one prems. Sounds like the team is having a really good start to the season.
From the schedule, looks like next time you have a home game is 7 July. Have to see if I can arrange to get that night free to come down and support the team.
