Extremely dissapointed not to have recieved any infomation via this forum or the Dunedin Ice Hockey website as to when thunder trials were for interested partys my self and a number of interested other partys would have been keen… including keith as one….
it would appear it has been kept to a relatively small, elite group
maybe next season huh
either that or the Thunder scouting staff has been busy doing their rounds and have submitted their reports?
The trials were posted on the Thunder website for two months, there was an email sent around all SIHL clubs, and the clubs were asked to inform their members.
Not everyone has time to check the thunder website religously every day and couldnt even see it advertised on Dunedins or any other club website
Well, there’s not much that can be done about that now. Thanks for bringing it to our attention and to Kyle’s also. I’m really not in-the-know with this stuff, but I’ll have a talk with Ryan about what can be done to make SlapShot a better resource for this kind of information.
Look maybe we dropped the ball slightly, but if people really wanted to trial for Thunder they might have checked the website once.
There is a link off the Dunedin Website to the Thunder page, and the trials were on the front page until the cut-off date, and can still be found in the news archive

Actually I do see a very distinct problem here. The Dunedin Thunder have killed their RSS feed for some reason … http://feeds.feedburner.com/dunedinthunder or http://dunedinthunder.co.nz/feed/
Presumably anyone wanting to get the most up to date information about the team would have been subscribed to it. But since it is now dead, they would have missed all the news. There wasn’t even a message saying that the feed would be killed off, so many people (including myself) would have simply assumed that the team weren’t posting any news.
I never use RSS feeds to check news ever…. but for those of you who do, how do we restart it?
Look I am not saying we did it perfectly, all I am saying is if you actually wanted to make the team, you would have looked at the website, or emailed or rang someone you know that could put you in touch with the relevant people. The ice hockey community isn’t that big.
It wasn’t a hidden trial, and many people that have never played Thunder before trialled so they must have found out about it somehow.
Aaron, I don’t think Ryan’s having a go here. It would just be good to get this sorted out for the future.
All you need to do is to create a feed at http://dunedinthunder.co.nz/feed/. The Feedburner one which everyone is subscribed to (76 people currently) grabs it’s data from there.
It’s currently routed through my Feedburner account as Al and Karen didn’t want to register an official Thunder account. There will be a way to give you guys access to it if you require it.
well maybe the thunder should run a nother trial so people dont think its just a small group of people who were in the loop to trial then? Otherwise i know a number of people will be highly dissapointed
I doubt they’d run a new trial just because they goofed up their RSS feed.
And since it was advertised quite widely I can’t see any other problems.
