Take your head out of the sand.
FACT it was not made clear that teams were being made up the only thing made clear was the date of the competition.
Fact it was way better in the last years, why change the format ,also it show by the lack of outside Dunedin teams this year .
This should and could be better, with Queenstown and other areas playing and supporting the competition.
You guys are living in a bubble.I did asak about and got no where that,s a fact.

"keith":6pafeaf6 wrote:Fact it was way better in the last years, why change the format ,[/quote:6pafeaf6]Other than the lack of posters what specifically has changed? I don’t see any difference from other years except that it was little more obvious how to go about entering and I think we were given a more notice than in previous years.

May 11, 2010 at 2:43 am #15391imported_RyanMemberLol, well I do consider Keith a friend already. He just seems to be talking in riddles at the moment that’s all ” title=”Tongue” />
I’m all for new ideas on how to improve things, I’m never shy in telling people when they’ve screwed up, I just don’t see any problems this time around.
The only major change I see this year is that no one stepped forward to form an individuals team, but I don’t see how that’s the organisers fault. That’s more of a criticism of the hockey community as a whole, which includes those doing the criticising.
May 11, 2010 at 4:26 am #15392NZblackiceMemberJust wanted to say you Dunedin guys did a really good job job of making us Canterbury boys feel welcome. The weekend went pretty well I thought, the reffing was a bit questionable at times but that said I am used to Christchurch reffing so my views of good officiating are pretty much out the window.
Heard a couple people say that there was “No point in a team like theirs coming here to kick the shit out of other teams” (About my team, Jagr Bombs).
Firstly, coming from Christchurch we had no idea what the competition was going to be like until we arrived at the rink on Saturday (apart from the Penguins because I had spoken to people on the team), so the idea of us coming to just win by 20 goals is quite far fetched.
Secondly, I thought my team showed a lot of character playing the lesser skilled teams, we never skated them into the ground or even had the intention of killing anyone. If anyone saw the Jagr Bombs vs. Rangers game you will know what I ment. It was probably the highlight of the weekend seeing some of the guys who aren’t too skilled score some nice goals against a good goalie and you could tell they appreciated the friendly atmosphere of the game.
One thing I think would be a lot better for next time is if you broke up the Tekapo, Jagr Bombs and Penguins teams from Dunedin Women, Rangers and SK8 and had a few round robin games. This way everyone would be playing against similar skill and there would be no 15 goal deficits. Not quite sure how it would work exactly but it’s food for thought.
Not even going to go into the Tekapo team..
The only thing I think was complete and utter bullshit about the whole weekend was Tom Wilson. I waited outside the Penguins locker room for 45 minutes to get an autograph and he ignored me. The nerve of this guy. Just so you know Tom, the posters are coming off my wall, and I will NOT be buying your jersey when you make it into the show.
Overall a great weekend of hockey with great people (bar Tekapo). Would definitely come back next year.

You only won by a single point over the Penguins after all. Personally I’m not a big fan of “dumbing down” open competitions in that way. If you can field a strong team, you should IMO. It’s up to everyone else to catch up. The idea is to win after all ” title=”Tongue” />
A and B-grades would have made sense, but I suspect they decided they’d do that with eight teams, not six. For the future, it may be better to split it at six if it’s looking like there is a big differential like that. It would have been fairly obvious from the rosters/talking to the teams what level they were at.
May 11, 2010 at 6:28 am #15394vpatrolMemberHow about somebody who wants to find a team put up their own sheet at the rink asking for other people who want to play? Once you have 10 people plus a goalie, that person can form a team! You can hope and pray and complain about someone else from DIHA putting up a sheet or you can put a few lines down on a page, hit print, and head to the rink yourself.

[/quote:2y6yo6ef]We’ll certainly look at this for next year. Some years the tournament is fairly even, other years it ends up like this year where there’s a definite A/B split between the teams. Previously we’ve just divided the teams into two pools, we’d consider two grades if we could get back up to 8 teams again.
