So why don’t we just call for non checking again this year, how many actual Dunedin teams can we field anyway that are able to play center ice checking. Surely they would have better chance at getting a higher number of teams entered if they make it non checking unless both teams agree to it.
I guess having only two lines per team means they get more teams entered and they get more money from it. Man this sucks I’ve been looking forward to this competition all year only to find out I can’t enter my team [/color:2udpsvw6]
June 25, 2007 at 9:17 pm #5403ActiveMemberWhats said in the rules and what actually happens are two different things. Every year Ive played (4) all elimination rounds and semi finals have been agreed before the game that it was to be non-checking or checking. Otherwise the tournament would be reduced down to 3 teams and one of them would be the stampede so it wouldnt fly!. Even the queenstown team were happy playing non-checking. Beasts should enter a team cause its a good fun tournament to go to.
June 25, 2007 at 10:46 pm #5404imported_RyanMemberMarie Anderson has confirmed that not all teams will go through to the semis and finals. But I still haven’t heard confirmation of the contact rules so I’ll email her back again and will post back here when I hear back from her or Peter.

June 25, 2007 at 11:57 pm #5405Azzy77ModeratorFrom what Phil said last ngiht the chances of getting a non-contact final are slim to none.
However I think the other games people are pretty happy to negotiate, thats the feeling I got last year when we were playing.
I think the beasts should still enter if they really want to just play hockey.
The small numbers is nothing to do with money its tradition, just as the tradition of playing on outdoor ice, hence when Dunedin hosted it last year we hosted it in Naseby, and the contact in the final.I have never understood why the beasts want a squad of 4000 anyway, the size of the Beasts squad rivals that, of the NZIHL teams.
Besides I think the small squads allow more people to get more ice time, and since you guys are part of the dunedin club, I am sure you can find some other stragglers to attach the remainder of your squad to, to from another dunedin team

June 26, 2007 at 1:37 am #5407KyleMemberThat’s a rule that they did take seriously last time. Queenstown had two goalies dressed (ie, a backup), and they got told off.
June 26, 2007 at 9:09 am #5408imported_RyanMember[b:1lg3tg7x]Confirmation:[/b:1lg3tg7x] ALL games in the Erewhon Cup this year will be full-contact. Confirmation was from Marie Anderson (Erewhon Cup organiser).
[b:1lg3tg7x]EDIT: Oops, I messed up. See further down this topic for more info.[/b:1lg3tg7x][/size:1lg3tg7x]

I’m also not a bad defenseman too. I’m more than happy to play whatever position a team may need or want. Any takers?
July 3, 2007 at 10:02 pm #5412ActiveMemberYes
I think the old Bastards are looking for a goalie and you would be welcome though I will check 2morow (thursday training) and confirm. Also The womens team and other women are playing in the tournament so that means the beasts can enter a team (not meaning your’e a bunch of women). The final is full contact, the prelims are centre ice contact. That said the tournament is played in a “sportsmanlike” conduct meaning that the non-contact teams are not going to be smashed, just like previous years. This tournament is good fun and worth attendingJuly 3, 2007 at 10:17 pm #5413imported_RyanMember"leftright":356dmtmx wrote:The final is full contact, the prelims are centre ice contact.[/quote:356dmtmx]Where did that news come from?

July 3, 2007 at 11:16 pm #5415ActiveMemberJust in case your thinking of contacting her again bear in mind the reply is likely to be a bit grumpy as it bordered on it in her reply to me. She felt she had already made it clear to us.

[/quote:139i68ln]No, what she told me was different. I’ll go double check though just in case.
[b:139i68ln]EDIT:[/b:139i68ln] Woops! I did get it wrong!
[quote:139i68ln]15/ All of the elimination round games to be mid-ice contact only.
If the semi-finals and FINAL are played on a rink with high boards full contact shall be
permitted, otherwise mid-ice contact only will be played.[/quote:139i68ln]And those rules I posted further up this topic are indeed the current rules.
