sounds like queenstown will be one up on the record then!!
July 13, 2009 at 12:40 am #12576Azzy77ModeratorYeah we probably were hasty in our boycott.
But I felt going to play a tournament in Gore, will just feel like any other southern league round.
Chinstrap you must be up there for longest ever erewhon cup attendee…..are there any records kept for stats like that?
I feel like such a rookie with merely 3 under my belt
Why are we discounting gore or alex so quickly for winning the cup
July 13, 2009 at 5:58 am #12577Chin StrapMemberit probley will Azzy but we get to play for it. Not discounting them but really??? i dont think they do hold any stats like that but would be a few behind Peter Anderson, Mark Symonds, Graham Glass who have a least 20 odd peter probley 30 odd
Plod i hope they dont do that again as the cup went missing for a number of years in the 80’s i recall and was found in Peter Anderson’s attic a few years later. It was originally played with Canty teams dont that idea hmm na just dont like cantys
July 13, 2009 at 6:15 am #12578plod16MemberFrom memory, Pete would not have been playing for any of the Canty teams from Centaurus but the Albury Kings back then and you are lumping the location that the cup was found into the anti-Canty argument when the only thing they have in common is that they are/were north of the Waitaki!
July 13, 2009 at 6:17 am #12579plod16MemberWhat about some tournys that involve Canty teams as it sounds like Dunedin are having domestics and hissys! Anyone remember the A/B Club champs from back in the late 80s/ early 90s??????
July 13, 2009 at 6:19 am #12580imported_RyanMemberI’m surprised the cup is opened up to any teams, regardless of location. It would be a nice competition to have as an event for foreign teams to participate in.
July 13, 2009 at 6:23 am #12581plod16MemberThe cup was closed to entry from any of those nasty Canty teams either because they won it too often or was it that they never played on natural ice, could be a conspiracy theory in there somewhere!!

More events open for Canterbury and Southern teams combined would be great. It would help if the CIHA organised tournaments we could come compete in. The DIHA runs the Easton Cup, but it’s been quite disorganised and so some of the Canterbury teams gave up. Things should be better organised next year though as the new DIHA board has a better handle on the schedule/organisation of stuff like that.
I’ve tried organising events in Gore before, but the Gore Ice Hockey Club seem to be a black hole of communication so I gave up. Naseby is a popular destination and so is Tekapo.
Perhaps a two round social outdoor series should be organised in Naseby and Tekapo? SNC grade competition, open to anyone who wants to compete perhaps? That would probably get quite a few Canterbury entries to beef up the number of teams along with the regular SIHL entries who would probably turn up.
And no, I’m not volunteering to organise it ” title=”Tongue” /> Just spit-balling ideas here.

[/quote:blyhybza]I heard a rumour about it being a problem with the cup dissapearing like was mentioned above. Not sure if there is any truth to that or not. I see no reason why they shouldn’t be allowed to compete, SIHL teams are just as likely to lose the cup as our neighbours to the north.

[/quote:3eg6lgok]Pretty sure it’s just coz Southerners don’t like Canty! No conspiracy there!
July 13, 2009 at 6:45 am #12585plod16MemberThere were a number of years when the cup wasn’t played for with a variety of reasons cited.
July 13, 2009 at 7:14 am #12586KyleMemberI’ve opened communications with Christchurch a couple of weeks ago to try and get an annual Dunedin/Christchurch weekend started up (probably just one team first year, but build from there). Haven’t gotten any response yet.
July 13, 2009 at 8:11 am #12587imported_RyanMemberSorry, but I had to clip most of the first chunk of this thread. Explanation can be found here … https://slapshot.hellyer.kiwi/general-chatter/ … /#msg12779
July 13, 2009 at 10:46 am #12588Jofa playaMemberWho cares where it is its the Erewhon Cup and it should be played no matter where its held, Its annoying how we didn’t send a team it would’ve been good to beat the Elite Queenstown players at something like the most Erewhon wins
July 13, 2009 at 11:09 am #12589KyleMemberI can add that the Alexandra team is short some players and have asked for five players to be added. Any Dunedin players that want to go play this weekend, contact me on president@dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi and I’ll try and get you in.
