Devils and Swarm are clear favorites but someone could flop at last minute and let the Stampede in it. Pick your horses. Swarm have an easier run to the finals with games against 4th and 5th place team. Devils have to go through the Stampede and Admirals to get there.
July 21, 2011 at 9:51 am #17055kelf6966MemberI’m picking Stampede Botany Final in Auckland, seeing how Devils will have to play 3rd string Goalie for at least 25 mins of one game against Admirals.
Otherwise they will loose league points for playing an import goalie for more than 2/3 of the regular season.
Sounds like they may lose a Defenseman aswell for a shocking display over the weekend. The Stampede on the other hand just have to win 4 from 4 – Can’t wait for the final two games in Dunedin – Bring it on!
Half the Devils were so disappointed at their own behaviour they couldn’t even shake hands after the game……thought we taught our kids how to do that.
The other half of the team did thou, nice one Vince.July 21, 2011 at 10:06 am #17056vpatrolMemberI think it was more shock at the officiating then their own behavior that made them leave. Devils weren’t the only guilty party however. There were some shocking displays all around the rink. Regardless of that, the Stampede played a good game. One of the better displays I’ve seen from them in a while.
Fortunately for the Devils, their 3rd string goalie has a pretty good record against the Admirals and the team have confidence in him. Also fortunate is that the confidence of Stampede supporters in him is irrelevant.
Stampede don’t have to just win 4 from 4, they have to make sure its all in regulation without giving up a single point along the way. Should be an interesting end to the season is where I’m in agreement

July 21, 2011 at 10:21 pm #17058Azzy77ModeratorYeh, I see Thunder picking up at least one in the last weekend.
Although I think Admirals will pick up one more win this season, they have a good team when they turn up. Whether it will be against the Devils or Stampede, I don’t know….
All I know is, that there will be less in-net footage during Red Devils games.
July 21, 2011 at 11:56 pm #17059vpatrolMemberApparently frustration at being heckled by the goal judge led to the demise of the camera. Not an excuse but that’s the reason. We’ve been hiring impartial goal judges in Christchurch. Who knew we were doing it wrong all this time. I wonder if Spike Lee is available to goal judge the next games?
July 22, 2011 at 1:26 am #17060imported_RyanMemberAre you guys saying that the goal judges requested that there be no in goal cameras so that people wouldn’t be able to prove that they cocked up!? That seems rather ridiculous if it is true. I hope I’m misinterpreting.
July 22, 2011 at 3:57 am #17061KyleMemberNo. At the recent round in Queenstown the Canterbury goalie got frustrated – apparently with the goal judge – and smacked a camera inside the goal with his stick, possibly damaging it.

July 25, 2011 at 5:42 am #17064cattleprodMemberthe devils never looked like getting or coming close to deserving any points in quenstown. stampede played well but believe they can step it up again. if they play like they did and can, there certainly wont be any point stealing going on! its really in the hands of the players who are confident and capable!! could be an interesting end of season
quick comment on the the round or the officiating should i say. i think vpatrol is right. neither of the games were out of control or rough but the refs inability to make the right calls resulted in player frustration. cant take it out on them so we take it out not each other.
July 25, 2011 at 7:53 pm #17065GavrocheMemberNot bad analysis, prod, but I would contend that the Devils, in coming back from 4-1 down to 4-3 in Game One, then coming back from 3-0 down to 3-2 in Game Two, did in fact have some momentum and a for a few minutes at least looked like the team I watched in Auckland the week before.

Should learn to handle a bit of heckling, all good fun, just told the goalie that his mum left her bag at my house!August 2, 2011 at 9:38 am #17067kelf6966MemberPS Stampede 2 from 2 – Final in Auckland
