[/quote:3u77ks4q]many thanks – seeing the video, I had some kind of “d?j? vu” : last year, game no 3 of the tournament, against South Africa. Well, third game doesn’t seem to be the teams game…. ” title=”Wink” />
hope, they will do better against Greece.

[/quote:mviqt1mi]No, though I mentioned that to you. Outstanding game, the Greek goalie was fantastic, and by the end of the game the crowd was really getting into it and backing the ice blacks.
April 14, 2009 at 1:40 am #10816Defense101MemberGreece vs. Ice Blacks was definitely an entertaining game and the final goal was certainly a beauty but I don’t think the Ice Blacks deserved to win that game by any means. The reffing was some of the worst I have ever seen. I still don’t understand how the ref can call an interference penelty 5-10 seconds after it happened and after greece scores a beautiful goal. Then when Greece complains about the penelty being called so damn late they get a bench minor as well to give the ice blacks a fucken 5 on 3 pp? Seriously seemed to me like special favors were given out all game for the IB’s. I went into the game thinking they would clobber Greece but by the end the only reason they won that game was due to the horrid reffing that occured all game.
April 14, 2009 at 2:26 am #10817vpatrolMember47 to 15 in shots. Were Zaks goals soft? Stats say NZ badly outplayed them as far as opportunities. I certainly saw some excellent saves I didn’t expect the Greek goalie to make. Should have been a romp with a shot difference like that.
April 14, 2009 at 2:46 am #10818Azzy77ModeratorBased on the Stats one would assume greece was lucky to be in this….as Vince says 47 shots to 15 and to only lose 4-3in overtime, someone better get there goalie something nice..
Ands the Greeks scored to 2:1 PP goals mitigating any claims of bias one would assume.
Do you meant the ref blew his whistle 5-10 seconds later in which case ice blacks may have been controlling puck???Or the ref didn’t indicate he was going to call a penalty by way of raised arm 5-10 seconds late??
April 14, 2009 at 3:01 am #10819vpatrolMemberBy the looks of it, we might be seeing Australia in our group again. Lost 6-0 to Slovenia and 7 to 1 to japan. Shot differential of 59-12 in JPN game and 46 to 6 against SLO. Their game against Lithuania will be a good indication whether they are relegated.

[/quote:3qnauhxk]I didn’t get a good look at this as I was going from one side of the rink to the other. The ref seemed to let the play go until the goal was scored, but then he didn’t signal the goal. I wondered if he got a call from the linesman about the penalty.

[/quote:1l5jbcqp]Yep, apparently.
How does that work? Why doesn’t the linesman just blow their whistle when they see a penalty?
April 14, 2009 at 2:35 pm #10822rookie19MemberHahaha Defence101 sounds like a bitter fan of the Greek team maybe??!! Or a New Zealand hater like Ryan Wick.
Given the chances the IBs had, they definitely deserved to win, they simply couldnt put away the chances for a while there…
And I dont know about your blaming of the refs, there were a couple of very obvious trips that in my opinion should have been called on the Greek team at the end of the game. A disallowed goal that clearly crossed the line for the IBs also comes to mind. Its hockey, calls go either way.
What a game though, easily the most exciting game of New Zealand ice hockey iv seen. Cool to see the young guy win it for them in OT.

[/quote:3arw1ziz]I told you didn’t i, Vince, Australia lost to Lithuania overnight 9-3…and the only teams they have left are Kazakhstan and Croatia.
Kazakhstan will beat them, but the Croatian game will be the game we have to watch… but seeing as they only lost to Slovenia 4-2 I suspect its a given….April 15, 2009 at 1:23 am #10825vpatrolMemberI didn’t think they would be so outmatched. A number of the guys I played against weren’t there. There was some turmoil with selection apparently. Some of the guys were called and said you need to pay $7000 in one week and tell them now whether you are in or not!
April 15, 2009 at 3:18 am #10826ActiveMemberHey Defence 101
I was right next to the ref with chips in my hand when he put up his hand prior to the greek goal going in so your 5-10 seconds is completley wrong. It took about 5-10 seconds for people to register it wasnt a goal.I thought the reffing was pretty efficient all round with NZ deserving to win but the geek goalie was outstanding and making life difficult for nz to win. It was a great game to watch. I sense the crowds are getting bigger and Im sure most of the audience from the Greece game will want to come back for the final NZ game.April 15, 2009 at 9:18 am #10827irishMemberTurkey vs Ireland 7-1. We really just traveled half way around the world for a spanking with the wooden spoon.
April 15, 2009 at 9:36 am #10828imported_RyanMemberDoes anybody have any info. on how many people have been attending. I’ve heard some estimates of around 750 for the evening games, but I’m not sure how accurate that is.
