So since the demise of sk8 I have to get my stick blades off the Internet, which means I will have to put them in myself now as well.
Problem is, I have no heat gun to melt the glue. So does anyone have one that I could use?
February 24, 2008 at 10:47 am #7930KyleMemberYour stove element works well.

February 24, 2008 at 12:31 pm #7932imported_RyanMember[b:2t9ukphp]Some tips on inserting a blade into your shaft:[/b:2t9ukphp]
It seems like a simple concept, but I’ve seen quite a few people break their sticks purely because they didn’t do it right.Don’t do what some morons do and touch the stick to the element (yes some people really are that stupid). It overheats the carbon until it becomes brittle and breaks.
Some people heat the shaft as well as the blade, but you should be able to insert it fine after only heating the goo on the blade. Hold the blade as close to the element as possible and wait till the goo starts to bubble a little.
When you put the blade in, make sure you don’t twist it at an angle. Put the butt end on the ground, grab the hosel of the blade (not the blade itself) and push it directly downwards, that way you won’t twist it as it goes in. If you push it at an angle you risk breaking the shaft.
If the blade is loose in the shaft, don’t use it! Pull the blade out, wrap some tape around the bit that goes into the shaft, re goo it, heat it and repeat the process. It should be nice and tight and have no movement. If there is movement, the blade will break.
Another option is to use a camp stove/bunsen burner. They’re nice and quick, but make sure you don’t overheat it. My friend Kate borrowed the bunsen burner in my lab to replace her blade one day. She decided she wanted her shaft nice and hot as well as the blade and held the bunsen up to the shaft for a couple of minutes. Apparently carbon fibre does burn! She also set fire to her blade which was quite amusing ” title=”Tongue” /> Then the shaft split as the blade went in. The bunsen approach does work very well if you are careful though.
If you don’t want to use your own stove for this, then let me know as there’s a little place in Henley with a stove which works really well.

February 25, 2008 at 6:11 am #7935MichaelMemberI’d rather use a heat gun, so I’ll be in contact Graham

February 27, 2008 at 9:42 pm #7937KyleMemberMichael apparently got lost on the way to phoning Graham, and fell over his stove.
February 27, 2008 at 10:05 pm #7938ChrisMemberUmm, kyle, don’t be so ridiculous.
Clearly what Michael meant was that he had (in somewhat novel fashion) utilised his stove element as a method of contacting Graham.
Duh
February 27, 2008 at 11:04 pm #7939MichaelMemberOh, so I wasn’t meant to use the stove element to boil water to produce steam to run a small generator to use my phone to ring Graham to use the heat gun? Because thats obviously what I meant.
February 28, 2008 at 1:23 am #7940KyleMemberYou need a stove element to phone adaption thinger. Steam is _so_ 19C.
February 28, 2008 at 7:21 am #7941ChrisMembererm, no, steam is around 100C (at 1 atmosphere of pressure)

And you forgot the ° symbol, it should be 100°C or 273.14K.
