Well now the dust has settled and the gold watches have been handed out. NZ has been awarded U20 champs.

However will we even qualify for our own Champs. I pulled this from the IIHF news.

The admission of additional teams would make a Division III Qualification tournament with the two last-ranked teams seeded in Division III (New Zealand, Bulgaria) necessary

Anyone know what this means for our lads, Is it likely they will travel?

There haven’t been any new teams added to this division. There have been 7 teams in it for the last few years going back to when the team won the division in 2008!

It appears the format might be changed a little this year. It was divided into two pools in Turkey 2010 with the top four playing off for the medals. It was a straight round robin this year in Mexico.

It apparently depends on the Organising committee but usually money will determine the schedule, especially considering that the tournament is over New Year!

We’ll have to wait till Sept to find out what the game schedule is. The Organising committee has to put forward a game schedule, which is then confirmed by all of the attending teams.

I wouldn’t be surprised if North Korea don’t attend after recently withdrawing from two IIHF tournaments.
