Is there any interest in Dunedin for putting an inline team together that would compete at nationals?

Stefan is keen to have a team.

There’s the players down here – I could think of half-a-dozen off the top of my head. The problem is traveling up to Nelson… in 2007 you would have to go up there twice, it’s probably not yet decided how many tournaments for 2008.

But, definitely talk to Stefan, he was talking about this end of last year.

yes there would be a need to qualify in Nelson for nationals assuming two other teams put their name in the hat. It would almost be pointless if the only other team are the Snipers (one would have to be optimistic to think they will be beaten). !0 keen players will do it though. I’ve talked to Stefan a while back and he liked the idea. Just trying to suss out further interest.

It’s definitely doable. I’m saving for a trip to Israel right now so I won’t be available to play though. Dunedin has lots of good players so wouldn’t get totally outclassed either.

I’ve always been keen on organising games vs Christchurch in Timaru, but have never got round to organising one. There’s a really nice gymnasium there we can use with three basketball courts. I played in a game against the RedBacks there a few years ago and it was great. There’s no boards, but the gymnasium walls are usable, albeit it would have to be a fairly social game and you need to have some sort of rule to prevent injuries – perhaps first to the puck on the boards gets to keep it or something like that.

We got close-ish to Snipers a few years ago. Lost 9-5 I think? We had half the team full of very talented North Americans, and the other half, us less than talented mere mortals. Two or three better players, or a good goalie, and we probably could have run them real close. I presume they’re not the force they used to be either – seem to be struggling at nationals.

They are still a force. Would have made it to the finals had yours truly not let a weak shot sneak 5 hole with 18 seconds left. I think we were the class of the competition as far as skill and team play though.

I’m bumping this post as Andrew Kibbelwhite is interested in getting Otago inline going, using Alexandra in the off-season and maybe building towards travelling up to Nelson next year.

Hopefully he’ll sign up and push it along.

Cool.

I’ve been wanting to play in Alexandra for a long time buy my attempts have always fallen through.

A tournament there in the off-season would be quite fun, I think the Christchurch teams would be quite keen.

Just gotta hope it doesn’t rain!

[b:u08vt4eh]hi all, Im pretty keen to get some names and email addresses of all people interested in playing inline this year, please also give your age and whether you have experience playing inline.

If people are keen then I maybe interested in getting the ball rolling and having inline start again in Otago. With one of the first points being to get an NZIHA registered club up and running after we have the numbers of people committed to field at least one team in any grade. Would be great to hear from people asap.

Cheers,
Andrew[/b:u08vt4eh]

Hi all again,
In case people want to buy some inline hockey blades I have a supplier in the North Island who can get me some very good prices. Some examples of skates that may be available are:

Tour Code Blue Senior Inline Hockey Skates – $250
Mission He500 Junior – $135
Tour Formula 9 Senior – $165
Nike Bauer Vapor XR-Lite Senior – $280
Nike Bauer FlexLite 9R Senior/Junior – $250

Also some cool little Nike Ignite LX Youth Skates which would fit 5-8 year olds (size 13) for only $80.

If you want more information on any of these skates then please dont hesitate to email me and we can discuss details on andrewk09@yahoo.co.nz

cheers,
Andrew

Welcome to the forum Andy
Are you still living in Roxburgh?

I’ll play if my shoulder is fixed. I’m due for surgery some time this year but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to play till next year

I have a pair of size 10 Nike Vapors kicking around some where I need to sell. I think Callan McLaughlin has them at the moment. They’re kinda old, so won’t cost much, maybe $30.

Hey Andrew.

I’d be keen to play again, but my availability to disappear for weekends is pretty limited with two kids and two dogs. A trip or two over the summer down to Alex would be sweet though, Southern region games up in Nelson… maybe, depends on when they are.

The Dunedin Aces club is still alive (it’s basically been shut down for three years now), and might be a good place for you to build from. It’s got virtually no money – the bank account is down to about $15, but a fair bit of gear (including beginner skates), some crappy goals, a pile of pucks, some beginner sticks, a couple of sets of goalie gear, and it’s an existing club which could be brought back to life for this purpose.

and a set of team uniforms, one of which I have sitting in my bedroom right now. I also have one of the Aces CCM helmets.
