It’s IIHF World Champs season. The NZ under-18s are recently back from overseas, including Paris Heyd, who got a couple of assists (they won 2 games, lost 3 I think).
The NZ womens team are playing their first game on the 26th (middle of tonight NZ time) including Zanzee and Megan. Lyndal, who used to live down here, is one of the goalies as well. Hope they go well and clean up Israel.
The ice blacks are off to Ireland soon.
You can follow stats and scores of all these teams here:
http://www.iihf.com/hockey/tournam/tournaments.htm
Women are in division 4, men are in division 3 I think.
Of course, the big boys come out to play later in april at the IIHF World Champs Div 1. Anyone know if sky is getting any coverage (or is that just too much to hope?).
March 26, 2007 at 5:05 am #2813Azzy77ModeratorAre you kidding me the only way sky would play ice hockey is if they called the iihf “super 14 hockey” and sky would get confused and put it on by accident.
Hmmm send them emails though I do it at least once a year and they always reply like ice hockey is minority sport and well we appreciate you wish to watch no-one else wants to miss the latest installment of salsa dancing, jump rope, scrabble strong man, arm wrestling dominos championships (all btw are frequently on sky sport)
So if we all send them emails they may start to realise there is more than one person who wishes to watch hockey (better write ice hockey in you email again they may get confused)
To be fair to sky though how many cameras were here when womens div IV was here last time so maybe there is no coverage of that
But send them emails, let t be known we want (Ice) hockey on our tv
March 26, 2007 at 11:16 am #2814KyleMemberWho do you email? sky@skytv.co.nz?
We should start a wee campaign. Get a bunch of people to email them and say that we’ll sign up for sky if they get some ice hockey.
March 26, 2007 at 9:59 pm #2815Azzy77ModeratorYou just go to the sky website, and contact sky, then you there is an option to ask sky a question, and select what you want to ask about sport, and then write away, they generally reply within a week, sometimes just a couple of days
March 28, 2007 at 4:44 am #2816KyleMemberFirst game NZ beat Israel 10-0. Megan got an assist, and a boarding and a tripping call in the first period. Two assists in the second, and a goal and an assist in the 3rd. Zanzee picked up an assist in the last period. Megan was +3, Zanzee +5 (I really don’t understand those figures, how Megan only finished on +3 when she got 5 points herself, and the other team scored no goals. Surely she’d be at least +5?)
Second game NZ lost 4-3 to croatia. Unfortunately the opposition got four goals in the 1st period, and unable to drag it back. Zanzee called for interference in the first period. Megan clocked a goal in the second.
They’re playing Turkey tomorrow night our time.
March 28, 2007 at 10:40 am #2817Azzy77ModeratorLesson for today Power play goals don’t add to the +/-, so if megan scores five points, but two were in PP situations she would only get +3, thank you for your attention this has been another lesson for today brought to you by the letters I and H and the number 5
March 28, 2007 at 12:38 pm #2818KyleMemberDuh, I knew that too. Should have checked.
March 28, 2007 at 9:55 pm #2819Azzy77ModeratorLesson for the day, don’t try and abbreviate lessons for today otherwise you spread mistruths, powerplay goals don’t effect your +, but if on the other hand you are scored upon in a powerplay situation you get a – minus added, similarly if you are shorthanded and score you will get a plus.
so in summary
+ shorthanded, even strength goals (this includes 3 0n 3 and 4 0n 4)
– giving up shorthanded (ie being scored upon by a team a man or two down on you) or even strength goalsApril 15, 2007 at 10:01 pm #2820KyleMemberThe Ice Blacks kick off today (I think they’re playing at the moment if I’ve got the time difference right) in Ireland. Armenia have pulled out of the tournament due to visa difficulties, so their first game turned out to be a bye.
The Ireland Ice Hockey Association are threatening to webcast the games, but they’ve been having some difficulties, so it’s not up and running yet. Keep an eye on http://www.iiha.org/ and see if they come through however.
Scorecards can be checked out at http://www.iihf.com.

The IIHF had a web cast of the Div I games last time, although you had to pay for them. But it wasn’t too badly priced, fairly good quality from what I heard too.
Ryan,
April 16, 2007 at 9:47 pm #2822KyleMemberApparently the web cast isn’t going to happen.
NZL topped Ireland 4-2 thanks to going 3-0 in the final period. That’s a good start against one of the better teams.
April 17, 2007 at 9:26 pm #2823KyleMemberAnd Ireland had a pre-game tizzy about the ice blacks doing the haka, after agreeing in writing before the tournament that the ice blacks could do it.
Good gossip here: http://www.iceblacks.com/
Including the NZ coach confirming that Ireland could indeed dance a jig if they wanted to!
April 19, 2007 at 7:12 am #2824KyleMemberIce Blacks clean up Luxembourg. Still to play Mongolia, and South Africa, SA should be the only competition.
Photos of the Ireland game here:
April 19, 2007 at 7:19 am #2825KyleMemberThe Ireland Ice Hockey Association web site also says that they’ve got video streaming of the games. If anyone gets it working, post here and let us know, it spazzed on the plugin install on my mac os x.
http://www.iiha.org/ has links to the plugin and files.

Installing now …
EDIT: just got a message saying something about cant’t play this stream right now, try again later.
EDIT 2: the plugin works, still can’t access the stream. Is it possible it’s only available live?Ryan,
