With senior women and SNC nationals wrapping up, the juniors, midgets, and peewees are up next.  Any players to watch out for?  Is anyone going to watch?

I haven’t seen the Auckland juniors but know Jordan Challis is playing one last time.  Canterbury has a few good offensive weapons however watching the Southern juniors practice, I imagine both Akl and Canty will have their hands full.  Quite a bit of individual talent.  Finally saw Aston play as well.

Southern Juniors have been pretty bad the past couple of years. They should be a lot more competitive this year, they’ve had all the better players commit to nationals, there’s a bunch of NZIHL players in the team (7 or so?).

Southern midgets won’t be as strong as last two years, where they’ve narrowly taken gold over Auckland in a couple of fantastic tournaments – midgets were the games to watch both in Dunedin and Canterbury. Not sure how the other two regions will be relative to previous years.

U13s Auckland are the reigning champions. Expect Canterbury to be strong this year after investing in some younger guys last year. Southern probably had their best team last year with some great final year kids, but they’ll still be strong this year. This age group seems to jump around a lot as there’s a lot of transition year to year.

I think Janos has been working hard with the minors but I haven’t actually seen them yet.  Hopefully having someone with his skill will pay dividends for Canty in the future.

One last time? I don’t think that’s quite true as he still has one year left after this one and if he’s going to play for Swarm he has to play u19s aswell.

is he not 18 now?  Which would make him 19 next year and not an under 19?

Think that Jordan will have another year in the U19 grade, he’s still able to play IIHF U18 next year.

southern will win the juniors, they have a damn solid team. with aston in net and regan on defense they will be hard to score on. not to mention tom ‘the python’ wilson up front. if he does to the canterbury defense what he did to the stampede defense in dunedin then its all over red rover!
