[/quote:3desq7yw]I had no idea Chinese Taipei was actually Taiwan. Who the hell decided to let China decide what the Taiwanese team is called? That is kinda retarded IMO. Is this common in sport? I’ve heard the name Chinese Taipei before but never realised what it meant.
Imagine if Australia told the IIHF that the Ice Blacks are to be called the Australian Ice Kangaroos! I think we’d be more than a little pissed about it.

MemberHave to say good work to the Dunedin boys. Harry got a goal against South Africa and Regan assisted on one of the Dunlop boys goals. Congrads to them and beating South Africa 5-3.

Member2-1 down at the end of the 2nd too, so won the last period 4-1.
Last game against Mongolia, that should see them into 2nd place in the tournament behind Australia.

[/quote:2kxe2thb]Technically correct, however China pressure international bodies to disallow the name “Republic of China” because they claim it would imply that there are two Chinas.
Taiwan is regularly used by many Taiwanese people to refer to their country, but it too is unable to be used because the Chinese government do not recognise the government of Taiwan as being legitimate.
The PRoC claim that they are the sole legitimate government of Taiwan.

MemberCongrads to the U-18 team. They will be coming home with a silver medal after hammering Mongolia 19-1 I believe. Harry got a goal and an assist, Regan got 2 assists, Heath Dunlop had 2 goals and 4 assists and Dane had a couple of assists I think. Good work boys.
