Any updates from the first game?
I hear it was it was a composite Chinese team. Fortunately a number of Thunder players are of Chinese heritage ” title=”Wink” />
August 17, 2011 at 10:52 am #17182vpatrolMember8-3 win to the IB’s. Tied 3-3 going into 3rd.
August 17, 2011 at 7:56 pm #17183KyleMemberChina looked pretty good – including the 5 thunder guys who played together – until midway through the 3rd when the floodgates opened.
Two virtually identical goals – Hay high to Wannamaker coming down the left, across to Huber driving the right post in about 30 seconds started the flood. Only difference between the two was first one Huber had to dive and deflect, the second he was still on his skates.
August 17, 2011 at 11:08 pm #17184vpatrolMemberwas jamie the back up? She must have been a touch nervous!
August 18, 2011 at 12:05 am #17185KyleMemberYup. She looked good in warm up, didn’t get on the ice sadly.
Chinese goalie had issues with the goal pegs which overseas goalies tend to find difficult in Dunedin, and moving laterally – lots of the goals were passes across him.

Well done guysAugust 18, 2011 at 2:32 am #17187imported_RyanMember"vpatrol":1qrphlwi wrote:was jamie the back up? She must have been a touch nervous!
[/quote:1qrphlwi]Do you maybe mean Jaimee? As in Jaimee Wood?
If so, that girl certainly appears very confused about her nationality, one minute Kiwi, next Australian, then Kiwi again, and now Chinese!?
EDIT: Yep, just read Azzy77’s other post … [quote:1qrphlwi]local women’s team goalkeeper Jamie Wood suddenly found themselves in Chinese red.[/quote:1qrphlwi]
Remember the extra “[b:1qrphlwi]e[/b:1qrphlwi]” on the end of her name ” title=”Tongue” />

And the position of the “i”.
Jaimee and Jamie are quite different, really.
August 18, 2011 at 6:41 am #17189imported_RyanMemberAh, I didn’t even notice that!
August 20, 2011 at 10:15 pm #17190KyleMemberNZ looked OK last night against China, but they’ll have to step it up at least a couple of notches this afternoon if they want to compete against a really impressive Australian team.
I suspect they’ll also need to up the physicality, checking, and penalty count to slow the game down and bring it down to their level. Trench warfare probably suits the IBs more than an open flowing game.
August 21, 2011 at 5:05 am #17191vpatrolMember4-1 loss. They did win the 3rd period 1-0 however. No other details other than that
August 21, 2011 at 6:15 am #17192ActiveMemberAus outplayed the NZ team im afraid. They always looked in control and were better skilled individually and team wise
August 21, 2011 at 1:59 pm #17193KyleMemberNZ had a couple of chances to get closer. Challis had an empty net when IBs were shorthanded in the 2nd and Heyd caught the goalie coming out to play, but his shot was deflected wide by a defenceman who tipped it out of the air.
2nd period cost NZ, three goals. Australia definitely looked a much stronger team, Nothling played well to keep it that close.
