May 17, 2010 at 3:40 am #15207ActiveMemberThe same logic can be applied to a pair of expensive or cheap sunglasses. If you buy expensive ones you make sure you dont lose or sit on them, u take more care. cheap ones it doesnt matter. In the end its personel choice to wear a mouthgaurd and with the benefit of experience (age) I will always choose to wear one (a self moulded one about 35 bucks) and make sure I dont lose it. thirteen if you have the belief that you will lose your mouthgaurd you will. If you choose to change that belief then its a good chance you wont.

[/quote:2f0sb67e]This is the famous “mind over mouthguard” philosophy?

or just ahrden up a wear oneMay 17, 2010 at 7:29 am #15210plod16MemberYou should think of your mouthguard as an insurance policy, they might cost a bit to get a good one but a hell of a lot cheaper than going all the pain and effort to pay for new teeth.
I can think of a number of players who have lost teeth or suffered facial injuries while playing .
It would be worth noting that in the current environment with ACC (it is really just an insurance policy that everry wage and salary earner pays for) not covering some injuries and reducing their cover.
I could foresee the day and probably not far away when that they won’t provide any cover because you should have recognised that there is a reasonable risk of injury while playing contact sport. That is you were negligent in your actions and therefore void any cover/benefit when you get injured. Insurance companys are bloody good at getting out of paying for anything that they don’t have to.
May 17, 2010 at 10:03 am #15211thirteenMemberyes i had it that whole time, it used to sit in my glove but i have finally lost it 2 years later.
Before i had that particular mouthguard i took a stick to my mouth, that lucky for me only cracked my front teeth, i feel almost certain that, had i been wearing a mouthguard (this would have been a cheap one as i was a student) i would have lost more than the bottom of my teeth. the mouthguard i owned at the time only just covered my teeth and would most likely have taken my teeth with it. This does happen ask around, one of the canadians team mates team came all out with his mouthguard during a practice, i cant say i like this idea
Now on the subject of my ability to operate a motor vehicle…May 18, 2010 at 12:21 pm #15212KyleMemberStampede and Thunder played a reasonably good pre-season game in Gore tonight. Didn’t look like there was too much rust. Stampede picked up a couple of early goals before Dunedin got one back around the net – Tom Wilson? Wesseling got a nice wrist shot in off a face off in the second and Stampede picked up another to go into the third 3-2 up. Two more goals in the third – point shot from Weir and another to… Heyd? saw Dunedin up one, but Stampede got one back with a few minutes to go to tie it up and finish the game 4-4.
Wesseling got pretty badly hurt in the 2nd and was on oxygen and a needle with st johns after the game, hope it’s nothing too bad. Good crowd in Gore, about 250 watching the game.
May 18, 2010 at 4:10 pm #15213imported_RyanMemberAwesome to hear that Gore has a game for once.
Is that the first NZIHL game they’ve had? … albeit presumably a non-championship one
Do you think that was a full Stampede squad? Score sounds pretty good if that was the case.
May 18, 2010 at 9:26 pm #15214KyleMemberLike Thunder, I’m not sure if they have all their imports yet. But otherwise it looked fairly close to a full squad.
May 18, 2010 at 10:56 pm #15215aston head of statisticsMemberit was a good close game and a good turn out the gore rink was packed
both teams had almost full squads there
some great goaltending from both thunder goalies really helped them out.May 19, 2010 at 12:03 am #15216Azzy77ModeratorYeah Router was sporting a fine beard.
Yeah I think both teams were at fairly full strength, Dunedin lost Damien Watson in the 1 st period, so required so tweaks to the lines.I think all four goalies played pretty well. There was some epic saves being pulled all over the place.
I had trouble making it to the changing room, with all the fans crowding the door looking for autographs…
This does certainly bode well for a tight season.
May 19, 2010 at 2:23 am #15217imported_RyanMemberWhat do you think allowed Thunder to up their game like this?
From the outside, it appeared that the 2009 season was severely hampered by the Thunders’ coaching whereas that doesn’t seem likely to be such a disaster for the 2010 season now that James is in charge. Is that possibly one of the reasons?
May 19, 2010 at 7:04 am #15218KyleMemberI presume coaching is part of it. Domestic imports are a big difference. There’s a bunch of players who used to play in Chch that are making a difference down here. Paris Heyd was a fairly dominant player last night.
May 20, 2010 at 12:20 am #15219thirteenMemberWe have a better team than last year, to put that bluntly but i think we can all agree on that. James is to thank in no small part for upping the level of our team, he has involved no politics and everything he does is clear so everyone in the team knows where they stand at all times. hence we have a full squad of our best players.
May 20, 2010 at 10:53 pm #15220KyleMemberMike Wesseling out for the season with a broken collarbone from Tuesday. Bummer.
