Ahhh it’s good to be back! What have i missed so far?
June 27, 2011 at 11:28 am #16691plod16MemberThirteen’s quote is reasonably accurate and in his words “And what was with the tripping call on haines when he did what could only be described as an ‘ALMOST’ text book hip check on bertrand? i say almost as JP slipped the check.”
The other player did slip through the check and Berty stuck his other leg out and attempted to slow him down, which is part of tripping!
Emma, you probably couldn’t see that from the other end of the rink.
Granted the linesmen could’ve intervened earlier in both altercations earlier. In the second one, if they had, the only penalties that would have been called would be misconducts.
Thirteen, everyone accepts that they will be assaulted when they play contact sport, hockey
included! Since you have found Brookers, you can find the definition of assault.June 27, 2011 at 11:36 am #16692plod16MemberA match report was supplied to the relevant people, they are to arrange a DC hearing before the next game.
If there is to be no further action, then so be it! It was more serious than the 5 + GM situations we had last year, which were only worthy of 5 + GMs.
June 27, 2011 at 10:13 pm #16693jamrockMemberbrutal reffing in auckland first game 2nd game a lot more controlled, a women linesman trying to break up a fight is a pathetic sight to see The male linesman had Oak’s hands controlled but the female ref couldnt control the other guy and so oak got punched a few more times in the visor for his troubles, whats worse is the old guy reffing was standing there like a knob just watching his colleague struggling to do her job.
she has no business being out there, skating was shocking, line calls were too, obvious icings waved off and calling when it had been waved off. NO FEMALE REFS IN NZIHL.
June 28, 2011 at 1:04 am #16694ActiveMemberOw Jamrock! opening a can of worms there. Maybe you could have added women dont skate well because it was during the first period.
Personaly I dont have any problem as long as their skating skills (male & female) are equal to the speed of the gameJune 28, 2011 at 1:36 am #16695jamrockMemberI dont think any 5 foot 4 women trying to separate two 6 ft men from fighting would be successful (unless nudity was involved), why do it in ice hockey?
June 28, 2011 at 1:52 am #16696thirteenMemberHaha love a bit of old fashioned sexism! but raises a point, one of the jobs of a linesman is to break fights up, if a linesman is not physically able to this they should not be lining, whether male or female. Unfortunately for females they are by and large smaller and less strong than their male counterparts (did i mention dumber too) so they will almost always struggle in this field. Unless they are a gigantic lesbian…
PS im kidding with the sexismPPS Plod which fight was more serious than last year? the defenseless guy getting his head smashed in or the even fight between two willing participants in which neither got seriously hurt but which exited the crowd and rallied a team in need? (say defenseless because of the position he was in he had no way of fighting back)
PPPS plod, not sure if you have ever played hockey but when throwing a hip check on the wall it is quite easy for the back leg to swing out as you are trying for balance, maybe paul scott needs to excersize a little more discretion in making calls rather than get on a tangent of calling pedantic penalties that ruin a game. No one doubts his knowledge of the rules but his fair application of them leaves much to be desired. If he polices like he refs god help us all
June 28, 2011 at 2:11 am #16697plod16MemberBlake, from an earlier posting you stated that you were potentially the best Ref in the southern area. You need to change the tints on your glasses from player to referee!
Probably about time you put up and got out there for 60 minutes on the lines rather than being a bookmark to separating the third and forth lines from the first two lines.
Does your physio remove all those splinters gently?
June 28, 2011 at 2:15 am #16698jamrockMemberi believe the correct term is grocery stick
But i was disgusted that the other refs were not intervening in the fight because she was really really struggling
June 28, 2011 at 2:16 am #16699plod16MemberOr duster!
June 28, 2011 at 2:21 am #16700jamrockMemberIm so keen to see the pics from admiral and devils games, peter always does such a good job.
someone else was taking pics too maybe it was Huish’s mother??? does anyone have a link for those pics too?
June 28, 2011 at 2:41 am #16701thirteenMemberPlod 1 – thirteen 0 Dammit!
People do keep telling me to get out there and ref/line but i cant really be bothered, thats me being honest not me not having the balls to do it id thats what you are thinking. I enjoy being part of the thunder and after being part of the magnificent dunedin thunder supporters netwrok in the weekend (who are much cooler than the stampede supporters network btw) i have decided that if i am not playing for the thunder i will be part of that tremendous crowd bringing warmth to the hearts of those who need it most.
THough when i watch a game i go look at things from a refs point of view, i always have discussions with those knowledgeable around me as to what i would have called in each situation, most ofeten i agree with the refs call, though sometimes it is hard to know exactly what they have called as the announcing is not always perfect and the calls are not always clear to those in the stands. I do appreciate though the fact that the refs see things from a much different angle from those on the benches or indeed us in the stands. I also now, and i stress now, do not complain to the refs if the call was a fair one, though i may question the circumstances to get a betteridea if i was unsure.
I can put my hand up to start lining plod but do you really want top be spending 6 hours each weekend in my company?

June 28, 2011 at 3:39 am #16703Azzy77ModeratorHaha Blake and Paul officiating together. It is TV’s original odd couple.
It would definitely be a great sitcom, I for one would watch.
June 28, 2011 at 4:28 am #16704plod16MemberAzzy,
You could write yourself in for some guest appearances as yourself!!! That weird goofy side kick who helps out when the story gets a little thin and needs a humor injection!
