So basically, the solution to the ice debacle for 2010 is for Azzy to head up the night before this years final and knock up little Susie before Johnnie gets his mits on her, then we can have the final on Saturday night next season because none of the ChCh parents will want to send their kiddies to the rink where “that guy” hangs out and so the Alpine ice arena won’t be making any money from their ice disco anyway and may as well stick the hockey on then instead.
except you are forgetting that alpine ice doesn’t care how much notice we give them for ice time. They will not relinquish the 4 hours on a saturday night. It was probably going to be a sunday final no matter what. Saturday night is a better chance for many johnnies and suzies to get it on and create the next generation of skaters who will shaft hockey players in the future. Alpine ice knows that.
Or their kind thining is by hsoting it on a sunday, everyone can take monday of work to so we can start drinking hard on friday night after work right through untill sunday night!
Great way to promote the game. I thought the final had been scheduled for the Saturday 5th since the start of the season?
Seems crazy but hey cool way to promote a game that has a high profile at present from the winter games coverage, then play the final of the top level of New Zealand Ice Hockey on a day that no-one will give a sh*t about turning up for.
If the game can’t be played on the day it was sceduled at the top teams rink then they should have to give up home ice advantage.
Hope they have allowed enough time to finish the game, surely if they have to play ‘run time’ this would be a complete mockery of the whole season.whats on before when the the game would have been played on saturday? ie, why couldnt they start the game earlier so they finish earlier? bollocks to the pricks who own the rink! do they not have a sense of pride in their community? is there anyone in chch looking to open up a new rink thats community friendly?
I heard keith Dickson has a mobile ice rink that im sure could be made avaialable for a game on saturday in chch
Being on sunday doesn’t hurt Canterbury supporters nor does it really hurt the players. The fans will turn up and I can’t imagine Canterbury organizers are too gutted if southerners dont make the trip. Time to celebrate afterwards is not really a factor either. The boys want to win a hockey game. Everything else is irrelevant. If you want to change it, win the regular season next year and do so or build a new rink in Chch. You’ll certainly get some patronage in it. Either way, its a dead matter for this year.
No one is asking Alpine Arena to give up 4 hours of ice, they already have games scheduled on the Saturday, its just they don’t have enough time at the end to allow for injury or unexplained stoppage.
Surely they can just go you know what guys we will start 30 minutes early, removing 30 minutes from the daytime public session, and we will go 30 minutes later, removing 30 minutes from the end. Giving us an hour of play.
I know its a dead duck, and it probably makes no difference to Canterbury.
But in terms of advertisement for the game, its poor.
I don’t know why, I can’t explain it, but it rubs me the wrong way, having a final on a Sunday. It just grates. Its probably cos I am a kiwi.Because the Superbowl is on a Sunday, and the NRL grand final are on a sunday. But you know what both of those games kick-off about 12 or 3 in the afternoon.
If the Canterbury game was a midday special or early afternoon I could still get up there and back. But you know the other difference about those games, they are both televised so no one gives a rats arse whether they can make it or not, cos they can turn their tv on.Also Ice Hockey is an indoor game, and as such should be played at night. And there are no successful finals played on Sunday night. The NRL tried it and immediately had to return to an afternoon game.
And anyway we are missing the real issues. Red Devils have denounced the Church and are actively promoting teenage pregnancy, drug use, and prostitution.

We have plenty of “those guys” lurkin around our public sessions. We don’t need anymore thanks.
