The Swarm are destined for the final with their likely opponents being the Admirals or the Red Devils. The two games in Avondale are huge in determining the finalists. The Thunder and Stampede are still in it mathematically but need some serious help from the other teams.
August 9, 2010 at 1:57 am #16162KyleMemberAdmirals and Red Devils really control their destiny here. Admirals are ahead but Devils have games in hand. – Admirals have the final bye, so this is their last chance for points.
If a team wins both games they’re through no matter what happens next week, though to guarantee that both teams need to win one game in regulation. Devils obviously have games against Thunder the weekend after, so if the series is split Devils can take points there and get through.
For Stampede and Thunder to have a chance, they have to win all their remaining games for starters, preferably in regulation. And they probably need Devils to win one of the games against Admirals, and then lose to Thunder both times.
Could easily be an all-Auckland final, the shame of it!
August 9, 2010 at 2:09 am #16163vpatrolMemberbased on recent form, I’m leaning towards an all Auckland final. Thunder have been too up and down this year to make a real push at this stage. Having the Admirals sweep the Red Devils in all 4 games would have been a laughable notion pre-season. They are playing well recently and the Devils have lost 3 of their last 4. The Admirals have something to play for in the first time in many years.

August 9, 2010 at 4:44 am #16165KyleMemberI’m thinking both seasons will be split. Because that’ll make all eyes on Christchurch next weekend to see if Devils can beat Thunder to get through. Thunder been good on the road after all.

[/quote:342awrcx]did the other poll not allow that or was i not paying attention?
August 15, 2010 at 5:09 am #16167KyleMemberThunder beat Stampede last night 13 – 2. That would be their best result ever in the national league by a long way.
Admirals beat Red Devils in over time in the first game 8-7. If Devils win the second game Thunder & Devils are still in it, if Admirals win they are through to the final.
Be nice if the final wasn’t sorted until the last weekend!
August 15, 2010 at 9:53 am #16168thirteenMember4-3 to Thunder in OT!
August 15, 2010 at 10:07 am #16169vpatrolMemberAdmirals win as well. 6-5 I think. All Auckland final.
August 15, 2010 at 10:06 pm #16170ActiveMemberSounds like the fight has gone from the stampede for this year. I guess that was inevitable given the workload their main players have carried over the years. Good that the thunder have finaly got that monkey off the back
August 15, 2010 at 10:09 pm #16171KyleMemberNZIHL shows Admirals had two wins (I’ve heard split series from someone else) so presuming that’s correct, neither Devils nor Thunder can catch admirals this coming weekend – admirals are on 26 points, Thunder and Devils on 19 can only get to 25 when they play each other.
Thunder gonna really regret that home series against Admirals where they just didn’t play well and gave up points that would see them still in this.
Stampede play Swarm for some pride this weekend.
August 15, 2010 at 11:30 pm #16172vpatrolMemberRed Devils are on 20 points. They received a point for the OT loss. They are fighting for 3rd place now.
I think the Stampede used this year as a rebuild year to blood in new players. With the ice time the young guys got and a crop of imports next year, I think they will be very competitive.
Congrats to Swarm and Admirals for making the finals. It was nice having a close race until the end.
